Linda Shanks Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 8, 2024.
Linda Diane Shanks (De La Rosa) passed away on June 6, 2024, in Dearborn, Michigan, at the age of 75 surrounded by love and support from her family. She is survived by her daughter Tina, sons William, and Robert. Linda is also survived by her grandchildren Jacquelyn, Nicholas, Anthony, and Jessica as well as her 9 great-grandchildren, niece, nephew, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her mother Norma Johnson, father Turner De La Rosa, sister Sandy Steger, niece and nephews and granddaughter. Linda was an active member of the Dearborn community. She worked as a teachers aid at St. Alphonsus. In her later years she became a caretaker and worked until she was 74. Linda was known as an animal welfare advocate in her community, and also an advocate for medical marijuana where she earned the nick name PSG (pot smoking granny) from a local radio station. She was a wonderful woman, neighbor, and friend. Linda will be dearly missed by everyone who knew her. To many, her house was a home away from home.

Linda was the `Cat Whisperer´. Many stray cats would show up on her porch. I think they knew they were now at a safe place, where they´d be spayed/neutered then be on a path to either finding a forever family thru rescue adoption, or become part of an outside cat community where they would find safety, shelter, food, but most importantly love.
Many times Linda and I set traps to rescue new cats that showed up. Sometimes Linda could just scoop up the cat to put into a carrier. We´d tag team often to get the cats in to the clinic for their `makeovers´ . Because of Linda, Bingham street has a stable healthy cat community. I´d always ask her first if she named a new cat that showed up. She had a knack for getting a name that fit the cat.
On walks with my husband, he knew when we walked by her house, if she was outside, we´d end up taking often for a while, usually about cats.
Looking thru all the texts and cat photos we sent each other is bittersweet, but how I´ve loved having you as my friend.
You must be surrounded by lots of cats and animals.
Linda, you´ll be missed.

LINDA is one of a kind. I found out today as I searched her name on good since she hasn't been on her phone for a while now. She is the best neighbor I had (I use to live on top of her) she will be truly missed. This news devastated me.
