Linton Joseph DeCloutte, peacefully fell asleep in the arms of his loving Father on the evening of September 22, 2021. He was born February 26, 1946, in Lake Charles, Louisiana, to the late Junius and Cecelia DeCloutte.
As a lifelong resident of Lake Charles, he was a faithful member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church where he served as an Usher and appointed Eucharistic Minister.
He attended and graduated from W.O. Boston High School and LSU Law Institute. He also attended numerous law enforcement trainings.
Linton served his country in the United States Navy where he served in the Vietnam War and received the National Defense Service Award, Vietnam Service Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. He served the City of Lake Charles as a Lake Charles City Police Officer for 18 years. He was promoted to Sergeant and then retired as Lieutenant. He was one of the first African American Police Officers on the Police Force. He was a member of the Magnolia Peace Officers Association, Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge 8, Police Benefit Association, and American Legion Post 551. After serving his country and city, he went on to work at the Public Defender's Office and District Attorney's Office as Investigator for many years. He worked at the City Marshal’s Office and worked as a security guard at the Lake Charles City Transit Department.
Dad, PoPo Linton, Brother and Deke, as he was affectionately called, never met a stranger. He loved watching the Dallas Cowboys and LSU Tigers play football. He loved cooking, some of his signature dishes being Gumbo and Oxtails. He looked forward to buying the biggest turkey every year for the traditional DeClouette Family Thanksgiving Dinner. He enjoyed barbequing during the holidays and inviting as many people as possible that could attend. He also loved to cook in the yearly Gumbo Cookoff in Houston, Texas where his beloved DeClouette siblings competed and won many trophies. He was very comical and always loved to laugh. He had a big, generous, and giving heart. He always supported close friends who ran for political offices by wearing their campaign shirts and putting their campaign signs in his yard. He loved his family (especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren) and enjoyed spending time with them during the holidays.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories, four children, Vanessa (Rev. Martin Timothy) Ceasar of Sulphur, Louisiana; Romaine (Terry )Zeno of Katy, Texas; Terrence DeCloutte of Laplace, Louisiana and Derrick DeCloutte of Houston, Texas; three Brothers, James (Linda ) DeClouette of Missouri City, Texas; Aaron (Neomi) DeClouette of Atlanta, Georgia; and John (Deirdra) DeClouette of Slidell, Louisiana; six sisters, Melinda DeClouette Hardy of Sulphur, Louisiana; Mary “Tina” DeClouette of Katy, Texas; Barbara Columbus and Bernadette D. Cuba of Austin, Texas; Pastor Dianne (Arthur) Dabney of Cypress, Texas; and Loretta DeClouette-Lafleur of Richmond, Texas; his Godchild, Kimberly (Keith) Henry of Austin, Texas; fourteen grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins; one special aunt, Louella Niter “Aunt Lou” of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and his special Lake Charles sister, Shirley Green.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Junius and Cecelia DeCloutte; his nephew, Erich Columbus; and his grandparents.

It saddens my heart to know my long time friend has passed. We knew each other from MSPO days and became good friends. I couldn't understand why I wasn't able to contact him. My sincere condolences to the family. I know he will be sorely missed. May His Sweet Soul Rest in Peace and All The Souls Of The Faithful Departed.

You were such a nice person each time we met. Rest peacefully my friend. I had the pleasure of meeting one of your grandsons at seafood Palace today as he was eating there to pay tribute to you. I bought him lunch before knowing he was your family, such a nice, courteous young fellow and I’m sure you had something to do with that. Fly high friend. To the family, I’m praying for peace and comfort that surpasses all understanding

Mr. DeCloutte, I wasn't blessed with the grace to meet you. However I have been blessed to know your daughter Romaine. She is a great friend and a wonderful blessing to know. She always speaks highly of you, her eyes light up whenever she mentions "My Daddy". Your mark on her life was and is clearly evident. Her character, wisdom, strength and perseverance are all a direct result of you. I thank God for your life, I pray and ask for Gods strength and the peace of Jesus for everyone whose life is affected by your call to come home. I will meet you one day sir, and what a time we will have then. God Bless You My Brother

I never had the pleasure of meeting Mr. DeCloutte or his family but simply by reading the way he lived his life, I know I would have been better having known him. He seems to have been someone who cherished his family and has been a great service provider in our community for as long as he was capable.
As close knit as it seems you all are, I hope you are able to continue your large gatherings in his legacy and honor.
Blessings of understanding and devotion for all family and friends. He will always be with you.

Daddy I miss you so much. My heart hurts. It’s been 8 days since we spoke. You told me time waits for knowone. And you were right. I’m sorry I didn’t come home when you asked me to. I thought I had more time. Thanks for the precious memories and the time I did have with you. My first bike ride. You taught me. You taught me how to drive. You taught me how to think outside of every situation and that anything is possible. Thank you for raising me to be the woman that I am. Everything that I am is because of you. I love you so much. I miss you. I will find the strength to be strong because that’s what you would have wanted. But daddy I need your help. I feel broken. And all I want is to hear your voice one more time. I know God needed you more than I do. I love u more than I love myself snd that will never change. Save a place for me up there. It’s never goodbye but see your later❤
