Lionel Smith Sr.

Lionel Smith, Sr. answered his call to his Heavenly Father on April 26, 2015 at 12:20 p.m. "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that Day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing." 2 Timothy 4: 7-8 Lionel was the third child born to the late Robert Smith and Daisy Bell Jackson in Schriever, La. on October 18, 1926. Brother Smith was educated in Thibodeaux and Schriever, La. school systems and served in the United States Army. Brother Smith accepted Christ at an early age and served on the usher board until Katrina and health wouldn't allow him to be a doorkeeper. He was a cab owner for Ed Cab Service and bus driver for the New Orleans Public School System. Brother Smith was united in holy matrimony to Emma Jean Warfield on February 8, 1946. To this 68 year union, a son was born, Lionel Smith, Jr. Brother Smith was a loving, caring husband, father and grandfather. Brother Smith leaves to cherish his precious memories, a devoted wife, Emma Jean Smith; two sister-in-laws, Reatha Stansberry (Sikeston, MO.) and Irene Smith (New Orleans, LA); three grandchildren, Monique Smith (Baton Rouge, LA), Robert Smith (Raquel) of Pearl River, LA, and Rashan Smith, seven great grandchildren; Durrell, Robert II, Remington, Emerald, Amber, Reynard and Harmony, nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. Brother Smith is preceded in death by two brothers; Robert and Alfred, one sister; Ruth Smith, one son; Lionel, Jr. Brother Smith is already missed by family and friends. His memory will forever live in our hearts and minds of those who love and miss him. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral service at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 2, 2015 at Pure Light Baptist Church 3944 Marin Luther King Jr. New Orleans, LA. 70125 with the Rev.
