Lisa Hitt Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 22, 2024.
Lisa McDonald Hitt, of Atlanta, Georgia, died peacefully in her home on February 20, 2024 after a five year battle with ALS. She was a beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, and a doting "LeLe" to her grandchildren. Lisa was born and raised in Fayetteville, North Carolina where she graduated from Terry Sanford High School. She continued her studies at Louisburg College and East Carolina University, graduating in 1981. After college, Lisa moved to Atlanta, Georgia where she met David Hitt while both were working at Merrill Lynch. They married in 1985, and after living in Atlanta and Miami, Florida they eventually settled in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, where they raised their two beautiful children (and precious four legged companion, Sophie). Lisa was a passionate preschool teacher and devoted her life to the love and education of her children. She was known for her boundless energy, great sense of humor, compassion for others, and unconditional love for her children. For the past three years she extended this profound commitment to the joys of her life, her now two grandchildren, crafting enduring memories that will forever resonate within the family's hearts. In addition, Lisa was genuinely curious about everyone she crossed paths with and her family often teased that she'd "never met a stranger." This curiosity resulted in a diverse and cherished circle of friends. During her arduous battle with ALS, it was those friends that stood unwaveringly by her side as Lisa fought her battle with courage and grace. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to these dear friends who steadfastly accompanied Lisa over the past five years.

Lisa was preceded in death by her father, Thomas Stedman McDonald. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 38 years, Matthew David Hitt; her children Ashley Geer (Chris) and Andrew Hitt (Kendall); grandsons Graves and Patton (born February 1, 2024) Geer; her mother, Mrs. Gayle McDonald; and sister Sandra Feagin (Scott). The family would like to thank the wonderful friends, family, nurses and caregivers whose care and prayers supported and comforted her throughout the last five years.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 2, 2024, in the chapel at Christ Church Frederica on St. Simons Island, Georgia followed by a reception at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to ALS Association, Georgia Chapter.

I will be praying for your family. Your mom was always so happy and kind to our family. I loved visiting with her as we watched our boys grown up in school together.

I will always remember how Lis was like a second Mother to me. She loved me in my annoying middle school years and in my defiant teenage years. She loved me throughout my college years, working years, and stay at home mom years. I will truly miss her but I have so much peace knowing that she's no longer suffering. Love you, Dave Ash and Andrew.

Lisa was one of the most kind-hearted women in Hattiesburg. Chase adored Lisa and all the many times he spent with the Hitt´s. Lisa was a steadfast prayer warrior when Chase needed it the most. I´m praying for your family as you face these difficult days.

Dear Hitt family. I am so sorry . Lisa was a childhood friend growing up in Fayetteville. We used to ride bikes together and have sleep overs! I loved her dearly thru our high school years as well. I remember one time she skipped a day of high school because she couldn´t find her eye lash curler! I pray for peace for you all. She was such a cutie! God bless you all..

Often i would go to Ashley´s after school and i just noticed how much Mrs. Lisa really put her kids first. She was such an amazing mother and like a second mom to me as well. She was funny and just a sweet person. I have no doubt Ashley will carry on that legacy of being a wonderful mother. I know she is at peace watching over us!
