Lloyd W. Clements (Clem), 88, of Carlisle, passed away peacefully on Oct. 14, 2013 in his home, surrounded by his family.

He was born in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin on October 29, 1924 to the late Theodore Link Clements and Irene Sylvia (Dunbar) Clements. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Ruth Anderson and Lois Goodyear.

He was a 1943 graduate of Pine River High School in Pine River, Minnesota. He was captain of the football team, played basketball and baseball, and was on the track team. Lloyd enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in March 1944 and was honorably discharged in April 1946, as a corporal. He received the marksmanship qualification badge of rifle expert. Lloyd fought in the Asiatic Pacific Theater and was awarded the Purple Heart after being wounded while fighting on Iwo Jima. He met his future wife, a Navy Corps WAVE, while recovering from his wounds at the U.S. Naval Medical Center, Bethesda, Maryland.

He was trained in the field of construction, was a finish carpenter, and made a lot of furniture as well as building the home in which he and his family lived. He worked as a field engineer for Buchart Engineers and retired from the architectural firm Edmund George Good, Jr. and Partners.
He served his community for 26 years as Chairman and member of the Silver Spring Township Zoning Hearing Board, retiring in 1993.

A proud family man, he is survived by his wife of 66 years, Frances LyNette (Fornwalt) Clements; son, Lloyd (Skip) Clements, Jr. (wife Maria Romero Cuesta) of Boca Raton, FL, and Palmer AK; daughter, Kathy C. Burson (husband B. Thomas Burson) of Mechanicsburg; sister, Jeanne Coffin of Fifty Lakes, MN; and many nephews and nieces. He valued family and the companionship of friends. Lloyd loved meeting people, finding a connection, and sharing a good laugh.
