Lloyd Karl Johnson,
Who never met a lake, forest, or falls he did not like.
Business wise, people wise, and just plain wise -- who by his collecting saved much more than one of these grand scenes for all to enjoy for ever.
We thank you, Lloyd.

I was so sad to hear that Lloyd passed away. He was such a wonderful person, so full of knowledge and humor. My mother, Eileen, cared for both Dorothy and Lloyd. Lloyd, always the gracious host, threw wonderful parties that our entire family would attend. I sang Karokee songs on more than one ocassion!
I was blessed to know Lloyd and will miss him. Good buy you goooooood-loooooooking man, till we meet again!
With much love,
Renee' Scnmidt-Birman

At home on London Road or in the Florida Keys, LLoyd was a great host with many stories to tell. He loved my Dad, Bernal for his artistic abilities and my Mom, Wilvera for the cookies she baked. LLoyd would come over to our house on Big Pine to kill time, sample Mom's cookies and talk to Dad while Dorothy "shopped" at the flea market. We will miss his kindness, generosity and wisdom.

Lloyd was married to my grandfather's sister, Marion Bennett, for many years, and I have many memories of wonderful dinners in their home. In later years, as he was the last of his generation in my family, he told great stories of his life which I recorded as part of a family history I've been working on. What an amazing life, and a wonder that he survived, given his story (perhaps apocryphal) that he drove an old car from Grand Marais to Duluth in the 1930s--without brakes!

Grandpa, we loved you. Our memories with you and Grandma are infinite and dear and precious; you shaped our lives in so many ways. Thank you for loving Mom and Grandma as you did.
Gone the years of sunny mornings in Key West, with your job picking oranges and making the juice (and cooking wild rice and egg scramble), and rainy mornings in Duluth, with your job getting birch logs and making the fire (and cooking wild rice and egg scramble), but we learned much from your example: Always have a fireplace; never let your wife know that you can cook; oranges grow on trees and so does money if you buy the right real estate; good deeds aren't something you do, they're what's kept in the vault at the office; and always have an office, if only to get some sleep.

We visited Lloyd several times at his FL home. He was always gracious and friendly, and made you feel welcome. My father (Bernal deceased) and mother Vera considered him a good friend. Mom will miss the Christmas flowers that Lloyd would send her, I will miss his Christmas card. We feel diminished by the loss of this gentle kind man

I purchased the former Johnson resort on Gunflint Lake and had property ajoining Lloyd's on the west end of the lake. He was a good neighbor and a source of goodness for the entire of Cook county. He will be missed.
