LLOYD MILLER Obituary

Published by Green Valley News & Sun on Aug. 30, 2017.
Lloyd Miller passed away in Green Valley, AZ, August 26, 2017 just a week after his 89th birthday. Lloyd was born and raised in Burlington, Iowa. He and his wife, Carolyn, moved to Green Valley in 1990 from their long-time home, a hobby farm with 1,000 cherry trees, in Rockford, Michigan.

Lloyd graduated as a mechanical engineer from Bradley University and had a long, varied career with General Electric, Lear Siegler, Bell and Howell and Litton in aerospace, mechanical, electrical and production engineering. In addition to spearheading many space-age projects of the times, he held patents on two products he developed while at Lear Siegler. He also helped design an automated delivery system that family members recently saw in action at the Porsche plant in Stuttgart, Germany.

Always the quiet, humble leader, Lloyd often gave generously of himself in the community, to his family and at work. He loved a challenge and ways to find a simple solution to seemingly complex problems. He was the "go-to guy" when it came to everything from an improved sound system for the church to repair of an antenna at the Titan Missile Museum. A multitasker long before his time, Lloyd was known for always having numerous projects going at the same time. He also found time to serve as a Boy Scout leader, with two of his sons and one grandson achieving the rank of Eagle Scout.

Since moving to Green Valley, Lloyd was very involved in Am ateur radio; teaching and inspiring people of all ages to become licensed amateur radio operators. In 2007, he won the "Ham Radio Operator of the Year" award. He taught a very popular after-school "Radio Club" electronics class at Continental Middle School for over 20 years. While there, he also started the award-winning robotics club. Lloyd also loved his MG cars. He was an active member of the GV Car Nuts Club and enjoyed driving his little red MG-TD replica around town and to club events. He and Carolyn are long-time members of the United Methodist Church of Green Valley, where they both sang in the choir for many years.

Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, Hazel (Grant) Miller and Arthur Miller, and older brother, Ross. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Carolyn Miller, 2 daughters: Resha Wyman of Dodgeville, WI, and Bunny (Harry) Bookwalter of Green Valley, and 3 sons: Larry (Jackie) Miller of Madison, WI, Scott Miller of Lowell, MI, and Christopher (Melinda) Miller of Thomasville, NC. Lloyd and Carolyn have 13 grand-children scattered from Wisconsin, Michigan, North Carolina and Washington D.C. to Germany and Spain.

Memorial contributions are suggested to an organization that promotes Lloyd's love of Amateur radio, preservation of vintage cars or the Methodist Church choir.

A memorial service celebrating Lloyd's life will be held in Green Valley at a later date.

Car Nuts, the radio club students, and many others.

Our deepest sympathy to Carolyn and family---

Lloyd was one of my first friends in green valley. He and I worked together on amateur radio projects for the Sheriff's auxiliary Volunteers and for the Green Valley Amateur Radio Club. He was also a great teacher of radio technology who's classes helped me to gain advanced ham radio licenses.

He was always a great mentor for me and for many others in Green Valley.

Lloyd - we will miss you very much.
