Lois LaBay Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 28, 2024.
Lois Ann Davy LaBay, 97, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2024 in Rancho Palos Verdes, California surrounded by her loving family.

Lois was born in Riverside, California to Kathryn Kilmer Davy and Leland Davy on June 17, 1927 where she enjoyed a wonderful childhood and the Girl Scout troop her mother led wherein she developed lifelong friendships. Lois attended UCLA where she studied textiles and she later worked in Advertising. Lois enjoyed a long career in Journalism/Advertising Layout Design at the Santa Monica Independent Journal where she worked for the owner and her lifelong friend, Herb Chase. Though Lois's career provided her both income and enjoyment, Lois's true passions were her love of family, friends, St. John's Presbyterian Church, horticulture and the arts. Lois taught at her church preschool and sang in the choir throughout her years.

Lois, known for her sweet disposition, loved life and maintained a glass full perspective (as opposed to half full) every waking moment of her life. Lois was a talented artist in areas of painting, music, writing and sculpture and enjoyed these disciplines with such humility that perhaps only her family understands her deep talent that is clearly passed along to the next two generations.

Lois married her late husband, Warren LaBay, in 1996 and they were inseparable until his death on February 22, 2019. They were best friends and enjoyed full involvement in their Church, traveling and a rich partnership that included riding their bicycles to breakfast a few times each week until Lois was well into her 90s.

Lois is survived by her loving family including her son Erik Jackson (Nadine), daughter, Jennifer Jackson (Vasilis), stepson, Ed Labay (Nick), her grandchildren, Erin and Griffen Addie, Jeremy and Jonathan Jackson, Greyson and Oliver Anderson, her nieces and nephews, Jim (Anita), Jeff, Janet (Dennis), Greg (Becky), Kathryn (Kenyon) and Alison (Carmen) and her caring companion, Marisa Montemayor. Lois also had great affection for her children's brothers, Christopher (Denise) and Lee Jackson. Lois is predeceased by her loving husband, Warren LaBay, her brother's and sister's in law, James Davy (Phyllis), Bob Davy (Jane), her loving parents, Kathryn and Leland Davy and her first husband and father of her children, Ralph Jackson.

Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2024 @ 10:00 am. at St. Johns Presbyterian Church at 11000 National Blvd., Los Angeles, CA. 90064. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Johns Presbyterian Church in memory of Lois LaBay.

Lois is such a beautiful person. She was always so generous to us as a landlady and church family member. She loved talking about what was planted in her garden and we would bond over the joy of the fruit and vegetable successes. She always loved that I played drums and would compliment me on that many times. She had great stories of her youth she would share and always had a loving welcoming smile along with her warm lovely personality. Love and peace to her family.

Although I never met Lois, I heard beautiful stories about her from my wonderful niece, Jennifer.
