Lola Jean Caldwell Bradshaw, age 71, of Rome, Georgia died peacefully June 8th 2010 after a long battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her family.

Mrs. Bradshaw was born in Macon, GA January 14, 1939 daughter of the late Wilbur Fred and Sara Carter Caldwell. She was a graduate of Jackson High School and the University of Georgia where she earned a BS degree and was a member of the Kappa Delta Sorority. She earned her teacher certification at Georgia State College and also attended Berry College. She taught math and science in Cobb County for several years.

She married Martin Horace Bradshaw, Jr on December 21, 1965 at the First Baptist Church in Atlanta and moved to Rome where she has lived since. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Rome and the Joy Sunday School Class. She was a member of the Green Thumb Garden Club for many years, and served as president in 1972 -1973. She was a former member of the Junior Service League of Rome.

Mrs. Bradshaw taught at Darlington Middle and Lower Schools for twenty nine years. The Lola C. Bradshaw Spirit of Life Award was established June 8, 2010 by her son Martin H. "Tripp" Bradshaw III to recognize the Darlington Lower School student who best exemplifies through attitude and actions both inside and outside the classroom- the highest spirit for life, love for learning, and unselfishness towards others. She received the following awards while teaching there: the first Edward N. Beachum Master Teacher Award, the James Brown Teacher Award, District Science Teacher of the Year Award, the Georgia Tech Math and Science Recognition Award, and the Georgia Independent School Association Award for twenty five years of service. She was a member for many years of the Georgia Science Teacher Association. She took great joy in her family, students, and friends. Her hobbies were reading, needlework, sewing, and painting. Mrs. Bradshaw was preceded in death by her husband Martin Horace Bradshaw Jr .on January 12, 2010.

Survivors include her son Martin Horace Bradshaw III (Tripp); daughter in law Allyson McEacharn Bradshaw and granddaughter Lillie Holland Bradshaw of Rome; brother and sister in law Leslie and Lin Caldwell of Monticello, Georgia; and sister-in-law Charlotte Bradshaw Gray of Calhoun, Georgia. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 AM Friday at the First Baptist Church of Rome with interment to follow in Myrtle Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 5 until 7:30 PM at Daniel's.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church, 100 East Fourth Avenue, Rome, Georgia 30161 or to the Lola C. Bradshaw Spirit of Life Award, Darlington School, 1014 Cave Spring Road, Rome, Georgia 30161.

Lola was a very special person and friend. She always had a kind word to say and a smile on her face. She (and Martin) will forever hold a special place in our hearts.

I was saddened to hear about your loss and my thoughts and prayers are with the family. Mrs. Bradshaw was my fourth grade teacher at Darlington. She was always my favorite teacher and one of the sweetest people I've ever known.

Lola was such a dear, sweet friend. We kept in touch through the years, and I have a wealth of happy memories of our times spent together. I will miss her so much. Clyde joins me in sending our deepest sympathy to Tripp, Allyson, and Lillie.
