Lola Wilkerson Jones

The world lost an amazing woman, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend on January 28, 2024, with the passing of Lola Wilkerson Jones.

Lola was born on June 13,1946, in Hoke County, North Carolina, to parents James and Ruth Wilkerson. She attended Raeford public schools and graduated high school in 1964. She maintained a perfect attendance record throughout her school years.

On June 13, 1981, Lola married the love of her life, Chuck Jones. In 1992, they moved to California. During this time, they visited Mexico, Santa Barbara, San Francisco, San Diego, Palm Springs, Las Vegas, Hawaii, Canada, and many other places, playing numerous rounds of golf along the way. Lola enjoyed traveling and playing golf. In 2000, Lola found her calling, as she was hired to eventually manage 714 senior apartments (in Norwalk and Anaheim), managing both complexes until her retirement in 2013. She had a special talent for knowing the names of almost every resident.

Lola loved God, her family, and friends. She also loved her dogs, Jingles, Chino, and Dusty. Lola is remembered for her generous nature and loving personality. She was a fabulous cook and loved sharing her delicious recipes. She was a gifted singer and in 2007, she recorded a CD of her favorite songs (a birthday gift to Chuck) and shared copies with family and friends.

Lola was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Tommy Wilkerson. Lola is survived by her husband and sons, Trent Matthews, Chance Matthews (Jessica) and Chris Matthews, her grandchildren, Ashton (Trent), Chance, Jr., Morgan, Gage, Skye (Chance), Elvis and Lilly (Chris), her sisters, Ruby Perkins (Skip) and Edna Morgan (John), sister-in-law, Ginger Wilkerson, her aunt, Shirley Potts (Al), and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service honoring Lola will be held on June 22, 2024, at 11:00 am, at Shiloh Presbyterian Church in Raeford, NC, with committal to follow where her remains will be placed with her father, mother, and brother Tommy.

I first met Lola in 2002 when she moved us into the complex there in Norwalk. Then just 1-2 years later I was workin in the office with her. I did not know that we would become such good friends and co-workers. She really was a good friend. We used to work in Norwalk and in Anaheim, CA. together. She was my boss. She Always took care of me for 14 years! We worked and played. We used to do Karaoke after work and the residents and us had such a fun time. Workin with Lola was not work at all. We had great parties in the office when it was eachothers birthdays and she always made sure that everybody had a great time. Lola you were one-in-a-million! You will be missed so much my friend! You always had my back! I love you Lola. Hope to see you in Heaven one day Your friend always, Debbie Ramirez

I never got to know Lola really well and I regret that. But what I did know was that she loved Chuck and that love was returned just as deeply. She was the love of Chuck´s life. What a gift that was. Lola had a sweet smile and a tenderness about her that drew others to her.
I know the grief of losing the love of one´s spouse. And because of that, my heart hurts for Chuck. Grief is unique to the grieved & there is no timeline for grieving. The deeper the love , the deeper the hurt. Words fail when others try to offer comfort even with the best intentions. Only God knows how deep the void is and He knows every tear before even one falls. Thankful that we do not grieve as those who do not have hope. For believers, we have God´s assurance of being with our loved ones who know Jesus again one day. Heaven is sweeter knowing our loved ones are there. Each day means one day closer to that reality. Sending much love & many prayers, Retta

Lola was a great friend of Joretta and Alton Futrell. we shared many meals with her and celebrated many birthday outings as a group of six. She assisted me in my auction business many times. She was always smiling and will always be remembered the friend she was.

I remember visiting Aunt Lola and Uncle Chuck in California with my wife Jennifer and being amazed at the responsibility she had with that super large complex of people.. and now I find out she knew most of their names! They were in love with each other and it was evident. I pray you all search out Christ so you to can see her again! She will be missed while we wait to join her! Love you Uncle Chuck!!

I am thankful that I knew Lola, and sorry that we didn´t see more of each other. Seems our family has a tendency to be separated by distance and time. Her life touched so many, and she will be missed and remembered by all that knew her. I have much respect and admiration for the bond she and Chuck had. Thankful they will be together in Heaven once day. My sincere condolences.

Lola was my dear sweet sister-in-law! She sent me the most delicious homemade goodies and breads for my birthday and holidays! I sure miss her laughter and stories about her life and family. She was my brother's true soul mate and love of his life! Heaven welcomed you Home!
