Elvira S. Schmidt

Schmidt Elvira S. Schmidt, age 81, of Falcon Heights died peacefully at home on 12/29/03. Creator of "Designs in Stained Glass," dedicated wife, mother and gardener. Grew up on a farm in Swedesboro, NJ, graduate of Swedesboro High School and Douglass College, and retired Phys Ed teacher at Visitation Convent. She and her late husband Edwin L. Schmidt (Prof. of Soil Science, U of M) traveled and made friends throughout the world. Member of University Faculty Women's Club and Art Section. Survived by her children, Molly Shodeen (Duane), Marcia Downing (John), Greg Schmidt (Susie), Carole Schmidt (Rich Brasch), and eight grandchildren. She died as she lived: with dignity, courage, and embraced by the love and respect of the family she nurtured. Memorial service 7:15 p.m., January 31, 2004, in the Sunken Garden at the Como Park Conservatory (1325 Aida Place, St. Paul, MN). In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Fairview Hospice Fund (2450 26th Ave. So., Mpls, MN, 55406).
