"El Dred" as he was often referred to at MAG 42, Alameda. Great guy, great pilot. Knew and respected him 79-85 at the Group. SF and rest easy, Loran. Dave Ballentine

I first met Loran when I checked into the Alameda Marine unit in 1980. We were both from the same area in Wisconsin and immediately hit it off. I can attest to his story telling skills. Flying F-8’s, funny tales as an airline pilot and many other subjects. Always had a big smile on his face. Condolences to his family.

Sorry for our loss, everyone. I always enjoyed the lively stories, his ever cheerful smile and the shared family camaraderie. He is a true example of a life well lived! Love and very best wishes going forward to Kay, and all the kids of their legacy, present and future. Looking forward to celebrating his life with you. Evelyn

Just a great man, in so many ways. I knew him as the “host with the most!” Tamara and I very much enjoyed coming down for visits to their beautiful house and area, and to enjoy their wonderful hospitality. Tamara adored him! And I just admired and respected him greatly for his experiences, his MANY talents and his warmth. One of my favorite memories is when she painted his toenails while he was sleeping on our back patio! And he took it with the humor and love with which it was meant. The world is less without him, but is better for his part in it. Rest In Peace, sir!

Many happy memories Kay of you and Loren in Canada, Ireland and Mexico as well as our many campouts with the Vagabonds. Also the good times we had at the Marine Corps Ball committee meetings. Loren was a one of a kind guy and always fun to be around. These are tough times for you Kay but please know you are surrounded by love and prayers. My deepest sympathy to you and your family. Loran was an accomplished leader, always a vision of a glass half full, outstanding pilot, great friend, and invariably first at "Happy Hour." Respected by his peers, he always was ready to lend a helping hand. His Marine Corps career was distinguished and he was respected by fellow officers and troops alike. He will be missed.

We were at NAS Fallon flying over very flat terrain on a bombing mission. I was doing about 300 kts. At about 100 feet. That was my comfort zone. And here comes Loran along side of me and below me. Better than me! He'll be missed.

There was never a more positive person with a colorful and funny Marine story than Loren. I would seek him and Kay out just to get another story from Marine Corps aviation history. No doubt he would embellish a lot, but that’s what made the Loren I knew. He will be missed, but not forgotten.
