Lorens Dunnett Obituary
Larry was a retired electrician for several area coal mines and worked last for Arch Coal Company. He was a Navy veteran serving during the latter part of the Korean Conflict and also participated in the evacuation of troops from Haifa, Israel. Larry was a member of Chelyan Lodge No. 158 AF&AM, the Scottish Rite Bodies, the UMWA, the veteran’s group, the Tin Can Sailors and also a retired Methodist minister having pastored at Dawes United Methodist Church and was a member of Otter Branch United Methodist Church.
Preceding him in death were his parents, George W. and Anna Meizer Dunnett; daughter, Kim Rogers, son-in-law, Jeff Rogers and a granddaughter, Tennille Davis.
Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Ruth Annette Dunnett; sons and daughters-in-law, Tom and Rene Newcomer of Indiana, Pennsylvania, Lorens “Butch” and Sharon Dunnett, George “Keith” and Laurie Dunnett, James “Kevin” Dunnett all of Wilmington, Massachusetts, daughters and sons-in-law, Sheri and Kenny Hicks of Buffalo, WV, Donna A. and Brent Wells of Comfort and Cindy Dunnett of Woburn, Massachusetts; grandchildren, Michael and Cindi Lucas, Madison Wagner, Christine Stephenson, Danny Creekmore, Shannon Metcalf, Chase and Casey Newcomer, Samantha, Scottie, Steven, Kody, Tommy and Amanda Dunnett; and eleven great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, November 23, 2015 at Dawes United Methodist Church with Pastor Von Sadler and Pastor Mike Tucker officiating. In keeping with Larry’s wishes his body will be cremated following the service. Visitation will be two hours prior to service time at the church on Monday. Fidler and Frame Funeral Home, Belle, is in charge of the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that contributions be made to Fidler and Frame Funeral Home, 1126 E. Dupont Avenue, Belle, West Virginia 25015.

This was a customer I had in Kanawha City at the insurance office a few years ago. I had always wondered about him since I left, and wondered how he was. He had been in remission from cancer. When he came in, we would always sit and talk forever it seemed like. His smile was so awesome and I felt this connection like he could've been my grandparent or something. His personality was one you'd just fall in love with instantly. When I came in contact with my birth father, he would listen to me talk, share his own experiences, and sometimes he would just sit and cry with me. After I left KC and went to Dunbar in 2012, I never saw him again. I wanted to write him a letter or call him up and see how he was doing but I never did. I thought about him a lot. He lived right in Diamond area, so I always hoped I'd run into him in the store or something and I could give him a big hug again. I searched on Facebook this morning to see if maybe he'd finally gotten one, but instead I found his obituary. I really feel as though a close friend or family member has died. Its crazy when someone can make such a huge impact on your life. Every day when he left me he would say, "Love you in the Lord, baby, I'll see you later." I know for a fact he is in Heaven with Jesus.

I will miss my cousin Lorens. We haven't seen much of each other over the past years, but would periodically talk on the phone & if you know Lorens the man could yak! And we would yak & laugh & cry depending on what was going on in our lives. My heart hurts for Annette's & our family's loss. Love you all, Steffie

I will forever be thankful that God placed Larry in my life, what a Blessing he has been in my life. I could be feeling down, but just let Larry come around and just being in his presents you could feel his love for you and the Lord's presents. I will miss you and remember the joy you gave. RIP my sweet friend. We love you but you knew that.
