Lenore Westrate Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 16, 2022.

Lenore Adele Westrate, 93, of Mears, passed away Sunday, August 14, 2022, at the Oceana County Medical Care Facility in Hart. She was born October 13, 1928, in Rifle, Colorado, the daughter of Leonard and Elsa (Fredin) Peterson.

Lenore was outstanding in all of her ways. She was fully devoted to God and her family. She was a loving wife, a caring Mother and beloved Grandmother. She wrote poetry that displayed her quick wit and sense of humor.

Lenore was an extraordinary cook who prepared lavish meals for her family and friends. Her Swedish pancakes, meatballs, and canned peaches were family favorites. She also cooked her famous beef sandwiches with the American Auxiliary during the county fair.

She started singing early on in life, as a duet with her sister, and later as a longtime member of the Hart United Methodist Church. She was prolific at crocheting and painting and also excelled at bowling having traveled as far as Hawaii to compete.

Lenore was very active in the Goodfellows organization providing Christmas presents to area children.

She was Scout Den Mother, and board member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Hart Public Library.

She worked as an x-ray technician at the Hart Hospital and later ran an insurance company with her husband Marvin.

After retirement, she loved spending time at the cottage along Lake Michigan with Marvin and as many family and friends that could join them.

Lenore was a hot-blooded Swede that didn't take any gruff, but was also very kind, warm, and caring woman who loved her family.

Lenore is survived by: her daughter-in-law, Jane Seelhoff, grandchildren, Michelle Mattson, Tom Mattson, Sean (Amy) Seelhoff, David (Kirstin) Seelhoff, and Michael Olson; great-grandchildren, Lars, Madeline, Linnea, and John; and siblings, Nan Harkleroad, Noel (Patti) Peterson, and Elaine Dinisman.

Lenore was preceded in death by: her parents; husbands, Stanley Seelhoff and Marvin Westrate; sons, John Seelhoff and Robert Seelhoff; and brothers-in-law, Buzz Harkleroad and Max Dinisman.

Graveside services will be conducted at 10:00 AM, Thursday, August, 18, 2022, at Hart Cemetery.  All are welcome.

A Celebration of Life will occur at a later date to be announced soon.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family.
Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service, King-Hart Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.

Even though the last few years of her life were hard, she was cheerful and always glad to see us, and so full of enthusiasm for the Eternal Life God has prepared for us. Hart is lonely, but I know many in Heaven are happier. She was a loving Aunt. I miss her ... "and I still can't do anything with my hair, Aunt Lenore" (she often reminded me that I'd tell her that as a young child living with Grandma Seelhoff who would take me over to their house on Peach Street where Aunt Lenore would cut and style my hair). She was a multi-talented, gracious lady on earth, and I'm sure she'll receive a Gracious Reward in Heaven.

My Mom and Dad loved Lenore and I grew up loving her too. She was so very special and so very gracious. She had a beautiful voice and a great sense of humor. Just loved this lady. God Bless her daughter in law for loving her like a daughter. heaven was glad to get her.
With loving memories ,Gary and Cheri Michael

I have such fond memories of Lenore from my childhood. The Seelhoff Family were wonderful neighbors on Peach Street. My thoughts and prayers are with her family.
