Lorna SHEARING Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province from Dec. 5 to Dec. 6, 2009.

SHEARING Lorna Melissa March 15, 1924 - December 1, 2009 It is with profound sadness that we announce our mother slipped away December 1, 2009 after a brief illness. She left us to join her beloved husband and partner of 61 years, our dad. Lorna was much loved by her family and friends. Her light touched all those who came into contact with her. Left to celebrate her life are her children Julie Short (Bud Livingstone), Nancy McDougall, Deborah Shearing, Norm Shearing Jr. (Patti Hinds) and Carolyne Samarin (Drew Samarin), grandchildren, Erin Rivard, Kelly and Jessica Short, Graeme and Alyson Foote, Carly and Stuart Young, Giles (Marnie), Arran, Brett and Anna Shearing and Brenna Samarin and great grandchildren Aidan and Ella Rivard and Cameron Young. Lorna was the middle child of Violet and Robert Maguire and grew up in Rosedale. She was a great story teller and her growing up years have provided a life time of memories for her family. She loved her community and she and dad returned to Chilliwack 19 years ago. A nursing graduate of St. Paul's hospital, 1947, she maintained close friendships with the women in her graduating class for over 60 years. Lorna's family however was her true passion and no one ever doubted the depth of her love for them. Lorna was committed to education and self improvement both for herself and for her family. At the age of 60 she completed a degree in the field of Social Worker. She said that this education served her well for the rest of her life. Mom, you were a woman who created beautiful spaces, both at home and in your garden. You didn't need perfection but enjoyed harmony. To you, if people felt welcome in the spaces you so lovingly created, you were content. Truly, wherever you were, was a beautiful space because you were there. Queen's kisses forever mommy. Love, your children. We would like to thank Cascade Lodge who provided us an environment where we could treasure our last days with our mom. A service will be held Saturday, December 12, 2009 at 2:00pm at The Community of Christ Church at 9845 Carleton Street, Chilliwack, BC, reception to follow at the Edenbank Club House, 7001 Eden Drive, Chilliwack, BC. In lieu of flowers a donation to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.

I only met Mrs. Shearing 3 or 4 times but during those times I clearly saw what a loving wife and devoted and close mother she was to her children. I came to 'know' her more through Carolyne and the loss to her children and grandchildren will be profound. It is lovely that your Mom and Dad are together again.
I am so sorry for your loss.

Dearest Shearing Clan,

There was always a pot of tea in the kitchen when we went to Pitt Meadows for a family visit. I remember a bright home filled with warmth and comfort, with Uncle Norm making all of us laugh, as Dad goofed along with him, and beautiful Aunty Lorna, with her amazing presence, just holding it all together and making us all feel loved.
I remember satin sheets she made as each of her beauties got married- brilliant! Think I will try the same?!
Love all of you, and I am so glad she is there for Norm,

I am so sorry for your loss. I am still in shock with the loss of Lorna and Norman. Your Mom always had a kind word for me in troubled times, when I stopped in to clean. She was funny, beustiful and caring. I will miss her dearly.
