Lorne CARMICHAEL Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province from Mar. 15 to Mar. 16, 2014.
CARMICHAEL, Lorne Wilmer
March 21, 1921 – March 10, 2014
'Slipped the bonds of surly earth... to touch the face of God' a few hours into what would have been his 69th wedding anniversary, finally reunited with his beloved 'Chappie' whom he had missed so fiercely for five and a half years. Born into Fraser Valley pioneering families, Lorne enlisted in the RCAF, spent most of the war training navigators in Canada before ending his service in England with the rank of Pilot Officer. Returning to raise his family, he remained in the Air Force Reserve until the 60's. He traveled the Lower Mainland, Fraser Valley and Sunshine Coast as an automotive parts industry rep, made sawdust in his workshop, and tinkered with his vintage car rebuild. Lorne was predeceased by his father Robert, mother Sadie (Hamre), siblings Robert (Audrey) and Muriel (Anderson), cherished wife Charlotte (O'Connor). He is survived by his son Gregg (Irene), daughter Lorene (Greg Stuart), grandchildren Catherine, Stuart, and Andrew Carmichael, as well as by his brother Murray (Norma) and a large extended family on both sides of the border whom he loved meeting at family gatherings. The family wishes to thank Drs. D. Moseley and M. Constantine, as well the staff of George Derby Main South and RCH Medical daycare for their kind care. In accordance with his wishes, Lorne's body has been donated to UBC for research. A Celebration of Life will be held this summer. "That's the way it goes"
