Lorraine WILLS Obituary

WILLS _ Lorraine Darling, died at her home on July 17, 2002. The cause of death was lung cancer. Mrs. Willis was born in Vancouver on March 10, 1916. She was the oldest child of Clarence and Beatrice Darling. Mrs. Wills studied piano with Jean Coulthard and obtained an Associate degree from the Toronto Conservatory of Music in 1936. She later taught in the studio of Ms. Coulthard. In 1936-37 Mrs. Wills studied piano in Paris with Marguerite Dupre, the daughter of organist Marcel Dupre. She was the first foreign student to live in residence at the Alliance Francais where she received the Diplome de Langue Francais. She met her future husband Richard Wills aboard the S.S. Paris returning from France. They were married in Vancouver in 1941. Mrs. Wills came to Youngstown, Ohio as a bride where her husband was a member of the law firm of Manchester, Bennett, Powers and Ullman. In Youngstown she served on many civic boards including the Planned Parenthood Association of which she was president. She was a member of the Junior League of Youngstown. Following her husband's death in 1972 Mrs. Wills returned to Vancouver. She continued an active life of community service and was president of the altar guild of St. Philip's Anglican Church. Mrs. Wills is survived by her daughters Christiane Ronneberg of Chicago, Marilynne Scott of Bothell, Washington, Adrienne Wills of Nanaimo, British Columbia, her brothers Judge Thomas Graham Darling of Ajijic Jalisco, Mexico and John Darling of Ottawa, her sister Denise MacLachlan of Vancouver, and her grandchildern Patience Schell de Castillo, Emily Scott, Erik Ronneberg, Laura Ronneberg, Amy Weber, Robyn Wills, and Sean Wills. A service will be conducted, Friday, July 26 at 4 p.m. at St. Philip's Anglican Church, 3737 West 27th Ave., Vancouver. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Discretionary Fund of The Rev'd John Stephens c/o St. Philip's Anglican Church or the B.C. Cancer Foundation.
