Louis Paul Barbato Jr.

AGE: 74 • Port Morris

Louis Paul Barbato, Jr. of Port Morris passed away Sunday January 12, 2014 at St. Clare's Hospital, Dover.

He was 74.Born in Dover, he lived in Netcong prior to moving to Port Morris 52 years ago. Louis served in the United States Marine Corps from 1956-1961. Prior to his retirement he was Chief of Police with the Netcong Police Department. Louis enjoyed hunting, motorcycle riding and trips to casinos.

Beloved husband of the late Theresa J. (nee: D'Auria). Devoted father of Louis P. III and his wife Phyllis, Vince and his wife Connie and John M. and his wife Jamie. Dear brother of Nick and John Barbato, Marie Rea, Jean Carole, Loretta Noone and Pat Grogan. Cherished grandfather/great grandfather of 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Louis's Life Celebration on Wednesday January 15 from 2-4 and 7-9PM at the Leber-Lakeside Funeral Home, 150 Landing Road, Landing. A Prayer Service will be offered at 10:00AM on Thursday January 16th at the funeral home with interment to follow in the Stanhope Union Cemetery, Mt. Olive Twp. Family and friends may begin gathering Thursday morning at 9:00 am prior to the prayer service. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to a charity of a person's choice. Our deepest sympathy to the Barbato family on the passing of their dad. I will always remember Lou as I went to school with him many years ago. He was a great person and will be missed.

My condolences to the Barbato family.
I only met Lou recently. He had invited me in to view his property. He talked lovingly about his family and deceased wife. He talked about hunting, his serving in the military, about his police work and the wonderful fulfilling life he lived. I found him to be very interesting and forthright. What should have been a 20 minute visit ended up a couple of hours.
I know he will be missed by everyone he knew. I know I will continue to look for his smile and a wave from his doorstep as I drive by.
His candle burned with a passion for life that we could all learn from.

EACH MORNING, I GET MY BREAKFAST AT ROSE'S PLACE IN NETCONG, AND THAT IS WHERE I MET LOU BARBATO. HE WAS ALWAYS SMILING AND JOKING, AND HAD AN INFECTIOUS LAUGH. TODAY, WHEN I WALKED INTO ROSE'S PLACE, I HEARD THE SHOCKING NEWS OF LOU'S PASSING. I KNEW HE HAD SOME HEALTH ISSUES, BUT NEVER THOUGHT GOD WOULD HAVE TAKEN HIM SO FAST. HE ALWAYS SEEMED SO STRONG TO ME. TO HIS FAMILY, I EXTEND MY DEEPEST CONDOLENCES AND I PRAY THAT LOU IS NOW FLYING WITH THE ANGELS AND IS FREE FROM SUFFERING.
