When I was a young boy, our family used to travel from Detroit to Duluth for summer vacation. One time when we had just drove into Duluth we parked on some side street to regroup. Lo and behold, there came Uncle Louie walking up to us for no good reason. We were all quite surprised to see him, but Louie didn't seem surprised at all. He just acted like it was business as usual. Being young and impressionable, I was impressed yet puzzled by his nonchalant demeanor. Some people mistake nonchalance for aloofness, but there is a difference, and Uncle Louie unknowingly taught me that lesson that day. It's something I've carried with me my whole life and has helped me remain calm in stressful situations, cool in the face of danger, striving to be stoic, and I enjoy continuing the legacy by baffling subsequent generations of children with my sometimes unseemly air of nonchalance. Thank you Uncle Louie.

Our sympathies to all of the Kachinske family. It was our pleasure to have met Louie and Phyllis when their son, Pete married our neice Mary Ellen. Louie had the greatest sense of humor and a genuine love of his family. Love and prayers to all of you.

To Phyllis & family,
I feel blessed to have known Louie & Phyllis. It did not take me long to realize Louie commanded respect and gave it as well. When Louie was done talking financial matters, he always had time to talk about the day to day business of life. I admired Louie and want you all to know that he always talked about his wife, his children and his grandchildren. He was so very proud of all of you. He was an intelligent man who also had a keen sense of humor. May you rest in peace Louie. My sympathies to Phyllis and family.

Sincerely,

Karen A. Slater
