This is a picture from a pamphlet that Jefferson put out on their Cancer Center a number of years ago. We have “Buddy” meetings every two weeks and I often think of your Lou when we meet. In fact we were known as Luigi One and Luigi Two. Of course with a heart and personality as large as your Lou he was Luigi ONE and I was Luigi Two. I know it is now three years since his passing. I continue to be truly sorry for your loss and I will make every effort in trying to combat this terrible scourge even greater in his memory.

A year has passed and the pain is still intense. I miss him every day, but his legacy to me has been all the people who loved him. They have been supportive and kind which makes it easier to get through the days. I thank them all for all the love. Lou was a dynamic personality, larger then life which accounts for the large hole in my life. I miss you my love every minute.

Dear Evon and family- We are truly heartbroken for your loss. Lou was a great friend over many years. When we worked together, Lou was a pillar of integrity that set a standard for others. He has a large number of fans who appreciated the personal relationships that he cultivated throughout the many years at Merrill Lynch. Lou was always someone you could turn to for advice and for a good laugh when you needed it.
Outside of work, Laura and I enjoyed the times we spent with Lou and Evon. The love of family that was shared during those times was always touching. Lou's heart was big and he will be truly missed.

Evon, Alissa, Joseph and your beloved children and grandchildren. I just heard about Lou. My heart is filled with sadness that a person so generous, caring, and full of life is no longer with us. I have the joy and pleasure having worked with Lou at Merrill Lynch. Lou was my first manager back in 1983. I learned much from him, including when to be tough, when to be fair and when to be compassionate. His laugh was infectious and he could light up a room. I loved to hear his stories growing up in Queens, and about his family, which meant so much to him. I am a better person for knowing Lou. My heart and prayers go out to you at this difficult time. I know Lou is already holding court in heaven. Sincerely yours, Jack Michaelian

Evon and kids, I am so very sorry for your loss. I am so saddened to hear this news. The NPs broke all of the nurses hearts, when we heard this.. especially mine. He was my buddy. I had him through this journey several times and will never forget him. I just saw him in the halls at Jeff and he gave me the biggest hug that day bc I hadn't seen him in some time. He was one of the strongest patients I know! He had the best family and spoke of you all with the sweetest love. He fought hard everyday for himself and you all. I will miss him and wish life hadn't gotten so hectic and I got to have that pizza with him that we always talked about. With tears in my eyes, I pray for your family and friends Lou bc you made their world so much brighter with your smile. Rest pain free now and keep near for your family.

Dear Pagano family..Lou's passing is a loss all who knew him. He was fun to work with ..his humor and helpfulness went a long way toward making day-to-day life better for our clients and all of those behind the scenes just trying to get things done legitimately and quickly. He always guided us toward the right solution, while keeping things light and on an even keel. Lou always maintained his humanity whatever the situation, and most of all throughout his illness. We will all miss him, but you will most of all. So deeply sorry for your loss.

Lou and Evon were destiny's children and the life they created is a magical one. As I read the comments of others I can clearly see how much Lou touched everyone in a most positive way.
Our hearts and prayers go to Evon, Alissa and Joe and the grandkids he loved so much and all his many loved ones that will move forward without him. Somehow , I think Lou has figured out a way to stay close by anyway. Lou could manage anything for his family. He's truly a miracle man.

Even in our advanced age of medicine, it seems almost impossible to stop cancer from eventually destroying the physical body. But only the person afflicted with this horrible disease can let it destroy their soul. Louie, assisted by the overwhelming love and support of his wife, children, family and friends, never, ever let this disgusting illness get anywhere near that tremendously huge heart of his and rob him of the fullness of life.

My wife and I only had the pleasure of seeing Lou for short periods of time. As a physician who has provided care for many patients, I was always in awe of the force of Lou's determination and stamina, while remaining grounded in reality. What was most impressive is the love from his family, something that was surely a major factor in his life and in his prolonged survival from a terrible disease.
