Louise de Klerk Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jan. 15 to Jan. 26, 2024.
Destin - Louise de Klerk, a beloved soul whose life was a testament to warmth, generosity, and unwavering love, passed away on January 5, 2024. Born on March 23, 1955, in Philippolis, South Africa, she departed after a brief illness and hospital stay. She called Destin home for the past 5 years where she finally got to live by the beach, but spent most of her life in New Orleans since 1982.

Growing up in South Africa alongside her brother, who recently passed away, Louise's journey took her to Stellenbosch University, where she pursued her passion for stage management. After moving to New Olreans, Louise was a devoted homemaker and mother. Serving as a room mother, participating in school activities, and teaching Sunday School, she epitomized the essence of a caring and involved parent.

As her children grew, Louise embarked on a new chapter in floral design, working at the Plant Gallery in New Orleans and later at Winn-Dixie's floral department in Destin. The past decade saw her immersed in the joy of working with flowers-a passion that brought her immense fulfillment.

Known for her boundless generosity, Louise took more pleasure in giving than receiving and was a mother figure to many. Her artistic talents shone through in the many creations she crafted in her garage, her garden, or during quality time with her grandchildren, Jacques and Felix, the cherished fruits of her daughter Marieke and son-in-law Brooks Gibert.

Survived by her loving children, Angelique de Klerk and Marieke de Klerk, Louise leaves behind a legacy of kindness that will forever be etched in the hearts of those who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Nola Labuschagne and Louis Fourie, and her brother Johan Fourie. Louise's memory lives on in her brother's family in South Africa.

A memorial service to celebrate Louise's life will be held on Saturday, February 17, at 10 am at Rayne Memorial United Methodist Church with a reception to follow. In honoring Louise's spirit, let us remember the warmth and love she shared, embodying a rare and beautiful brand of affection that will be dearly missed.

Dear Loving Family of Louise:

Louise and I shared many happy times together with our children. They were close in age and fast friends from the time they met. We also shared the bond of our husbands working for the same law firm. As our children were born in that time (one for me, two for her) we became close friends. We were neighbors also and spent many pleasant afternoons sipping tea and comparing notes on childhood development and opportunities for our children in New Orleans. She was a true friend and I miss her very much.

I´m stunned. I had no idea. I hope she went gently and pain free. Become one with the star dust!

Dear Marieke and Angelique, I am so saddened by the passing of your mom. We became friends shortly before Marieke was born and enjoyed many years of good times with "Gorg". She was beautiful, fun and talented in anything artsy, especially floral arrangements and the handmade smocked dresses that she made for you. I hope you remember that your mother loved you dearly. She tried very hard to be a good mom for you and grandmother...even when she struggled with her breast cancer and life getting tough. Please remember that she tried her best. In my last time talking with Louise last year, we were both reading a book called, "I Heard God Laugh" by Matthew Kelly...so, to my dear old friend- I hope you are now hearing God´s laughter. Rest in Peace.

Our thoughts and prayers are with all of Louise's family. She was so very proud of her daughters and grandsons, and her legacy will continue through them. We will miss her phone calls and wonderful spirit.

It is sad to hear of Louise's passing. We were neighbors for a long time and she was a very dedicated mother and wonderful friend. While I have not spoken to Louise since she moved to Destin, we shared many wonderful times with our children.
