Louise Finley Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 14, 2017.
Louise Mayfield Finley, 84, went to be with her Heavenly Father, Wednesday, April 12, 2017, in Tyler. Born Nov. 25, 1932, in Cherokee County, to Walter Boyd "Jack" and Gladys (Gray) Mayfield, she lived most of her life in East Texas; Lufkin, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Walter Bernard Mayfield, James Darrell Mayfield; and Great Grandchild, James Carter Keith. She is survived by her children, Karen Keith Wollard (Bob), Tyler; James Harold "Jimmy" Keith, Forest; Kathy Keith Cotton, Austin; John Finley, Lufkin; and Debi Finley Goff (Don), Lufkin; grandchildren, Colonel John "Trey" Chastain (Marcie), Ramstein, Germany; Justin Keith (Hollyn), Fulshear; Zachary Keith (Cassie), Tomball; Dana Finley, Round Rock; Kevin Finley, Round Rock; Catherine "Trina" Wollard, San Bernardino, California; Lauren Wollard, Waco; Gary Finley, Atlanta, Georgia; Sandra Storment; Lufkin; Erica Schaffer, Charleston; Lauren Pepper, Lufkin; two great-grandsons; Cody Jack Chastain and Caden Allen Chastain, Ramstein, Germany; sister-in-law, Mildred Mayfield, San Antonio; one nephew, James Dewayne Mayfield, Fort Worth; two nieces, Marilyn Mayfield, Fort Worth; and Suzanne Harrigan, (Mickey), Hitchcock. Our family has been blessed with very special friend, Kirsten Stuber, Tyler. After rearing five children as a single mom, she began a career as an outstanding tailor and seamstress; starting her own business after retirement from Clark's Department Store in Lufkin. She was known as the tailor that would tackle anything. She was a loving caregiver to many, including her mother, brother, numerous family friends; and was always there to lend a hand to others. Mom remained stoic and strong throughout a difficult life; sharing with everyone her always present radiant smile. She was very civic and community minded; chairing her neighborhood committee; starting dance clubs; playing 42 and bridge with numerous groups in Lufkin; and was a member of Lufkin Chapter No. 382, Order of the Eastern Star. She loved her beautiful rainforest backyard; loved to fish, dance and play 42 and bridge. Her best talent of all was giving of her love and help to everyone. The family would like to thank Dr. Sasha Vukelja and all of the wonderful staff at Texas Oncology, Tyler; Hospice of East Texas Home Care; and the doctors and staff at The Hospice of East Texas Home Place for their wonderful care and love. We would love to name each and everyone of you precious people, but our space is limited and you guys are way too numerous. Mama Louise, Little Mama, Sis, Nana, as she was known to many, will be greatly missed. She was one of a kind and brought a special light into this world. Though she would be very surprised, she has been described by many as a regal, classic, lovely and charming Southern Lady. That bright star shining just above the moon tonight is not Jupiter, it is Mama Louise smiling down from Heaven. Services for Ms. Finley are scheduled for Saturday, April 15, 2017, with graveside services at Resthaven Cemetery, Jacksonville, Texas; visitation at noon and services following at 1 p.m. Chaplain Elwood Stetson will be officiating under the direction of Boren Conner Funeral Home, Jacksonville. In lieu of flowers, donations/memorials may be made to Texas Oncology Tyler Foundation; The Hospice of East Texas Home Place, Tyler, Texas; The Lufkin Zoo, Lufkin, Texas; or a charity of your choice.
