Lovie SCOTT-COWIE Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province from Aug. 14 to Aug. 15, 2016.
SCOTT-COWIE, Lovie (Eli) Beatrice
Sadly we announce the peaceful passing of Lovie (Eli) Beatrice Scott-Cowie on July 25, 2016. Lovie is greatly missed by her loving husband, Rick Cowie, and family. She is also survived by her sister, Ruby Scott, and extended family in the USA. She was born on September 8, 1938 in Long View, TX. Having moved to Chicago at a young age, she enjoyed synchronized swimming and sewing. Lovie studied fashion design at The Chicago Institute of Art and she later went into nursing, working in maternity/caregiving, and found her calling in the Performing Arts, which became her life's career. Lovie Eli was a generous, outgoing, happy, free spirit expressing her love to all. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Granville Island Stage, 1585 Johnston Street, Vancouver, BC on August 29, 2016 at 8 p.m. Our spirits are eternally entwined. Bless Lovie!

Lovie I really know you are singing with the big band and look forward being along side when I get there.Of all the people I met and worked with during my 9 years in Vancouver you are the dearest one in my heart. You were true as a friend with non-judgemental attitude, a smile as big as heaven and what a voice. When I returned for a visit after an 11 year absence you invited me to the Granville Island Theater to see you preform in "Ain't Misbehavin". OH wow I think I slept around 4-5 hours that whole weekend. Thank you for being a soul who accepted people for who they were. It is a privlage to have experienced your generous heart. Cathy

I had the honour of working with Lovie Eli on two occasions, first as a cast member in "For Colored Girls..." and she later directed me in that play several years later. Lovie was a kind and generous person who never bragged about her many accomplishments such as nursing, acting and singing -- but always encouraged those around her to be the best they could be. She did not judge you -- but welcomed you in; and despite the hardships she sometimes faced -- she came through those hard times with a kind of dignity and integrity. She was a genuine person, who loved life and enjoyed it to the fullest. She also had faith in God and the ability to persevere no matter what life threw at her. I firmly believe she is singing with the angels and cheering us on to do better. You will be missed here beautiful Chicago Sister! I will always remember you....

I am so blessed to have shared a wonderful friendship with Lovie. We sang Gospel and performed together for many many years. But most of all we shared laughter, heartaches and dreams. She was such a beautiful soul, vibrant and caring. I'll miss my dear Lovie forever but she will always be in my heart. God be with her husband Rick and all who knew and love her. Rest now.
