Lowell Steffens Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 28, 2025.
Lowell George "Buck" Steffens, age 80, passed away on August 16, 2024, in Hale, Michigan. Born on December 27, 1943, in Fraser, Michigan, Buck lived a full and vibrant life marked by dedication to family, entrepreneurial spirit, and deep love for the outdoors.

A proud graduate of Fraser High School in the Class of 1961, Buck went on to graduate from Michigan State University. His education laid the foundation for a successful career as an entrepreneur in the automotive industry. With unwavering commitment and hard work, he built and nurtured his companies with passion and integrity. Through his efforts, he not only provided for his family but also left a lasting mark on those who worked alongside him.

Buck was known for his adventurous spirit and zest for life. An avid hunter and fisherman, he found joy in nature's quiet moments and the thrill of the chase. He loved boating across Michigan's lakes and Florida Keys, four-wheeling through rugged trails, and gathering with loved ones at lively family parties. These were not just pastimes - they were expressions of his love for life and those around him.

Above all else, Buck cherished his role as a father and grandfather. He is survived by his daughters Victoria Zannetti (Paul) and Christy Peruzzi (Angelo); grandchildren Stephen Zannetti, Joseph Zannetti, Andrew Zannetti, Valentia Peruzzi and Marino Peruzzi. He took great pride in their lives and shared with them not only his time, but also heartfelt advice drawn from years of experience.

Buck is also survived by his wife Juanita Steffens; brother Bruce Steffens and sister Marcia Sadler. He was preceded in death by his mother Audrey Steffens; father Lowell A. Steffens; sister Phyllis Foehr; wife Sandra Kay. Each relationship held a special place in his heart.

To know Buck was to love him - a loving father, son, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend whose warmth touched many lives. His legacy lives on through the stories shared at family gatherings, the wisdom passed down to younger generations, and the enduring bonds he helped create.

May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.

As his only grand daughter, I cherished my unique relationship with my grandfather.

I remember being whisked away to "ranch camp" during the dog days of summer with Marino to spend a week tucked in the protective embrace of the northern Michigan forest with him all to ourselves. It was during these treasured weeks that some of my best memories with him were forged. From a haphazardly ride in a handcrafted boat in which we surrendered ourselves to the mercy of the ebb and flow of the Au Gres River that snaked through the property, to learning how to drive stick in my parents“ Jeep in which he surrendered himself to an anxious 14 year old who had never sat behind the wheel.

While his passing is undoubtedly tragic, I find solace that he has found his way back to my beloved grandmother, Sandra Kay. Although I never had the chance to witness them together, I bore witness to an unspoken connection that remained paralleled even after all these years apart. Through my independent relationships with each of them, they imparted lessons and memories that one would start and the other would finish, unbeknownst to them. It was through these fragmented memories that I was able to stitch together what life could have been like had they remained together. It brings me peace they finally have the opportunity to go back to their roots.
