Loyal Bellon Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 10, 2011.

ARIMO - Loyal (Bill) Kent Bellon, 79, of Arimo, Idaho passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at Portneuf  Medical Center in Pocatello, Idaho.   Loyal was the eldest son of Loyal and Hazel Bellon born on February 1, 1932 in Roosevelt, Utah.  Loyal spent his early years in the Uintah Basin.  His teen years were spent in Huntsville, Utah attending high school at Weber High in Ogden, Utah.   As a youth he spent a lot of time on his horse Old Champ.  The adventures with Old Champ later made for great bedtime stories for his grandchildren.  After graduating from high school he enlisted in the Navy where he served four years on the destroyer the USS McKean during the Korean War.  On the fourth of July of 1958, Loyal met the love of his life Louise Howe.  They were married in the Logan Utah temple on November 21, 1958. They started their married life in Ogden and later lived in Washington and eventually settled in Arimo in 1974.
He worked at Swift and Company meat packing plant in Ogden for 22 years.  He loved working in the meat cutting trade.  After his years working in meat packing plants he got his dream job of working in retail meat as he worked at Reams, and was meat manager for Thriftway, Okay Foodtown and Ridley's at the time of his retirement in 1998.  However, retirement was not a word in his vocabulary, as he went back to cutting meat at Downey Food Center and Shawn's Market in Lava until April of 2011. He also enjoyed working for Horsley's Marsh Valley Funeral Home for the past several years.  Loyal loved working with people and always seemed to have kind comforting words for those that needed them.
He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served in various church callings including MIA, counselor in two bishoprics, Bishop of Arimo ward, Stake President of Arimo Idaho Stake, a temple officiator, and family history consultant.  He loved spending time with the youth of the church, especially girl's camp.
He was a loving grandfather that loved nothing more than spending time with his grandchildren by attending activities, trick-or-treating, playing "no bears are out tonight", being victorious at Sorry, and fishing.  He loved the mountains and enjoyed spending time with his family camping.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Louise: his children, Vincent (Becky) of Sandy, Utah;  Marshall (Merikay) of Roosevelt, Utah; Renae Walker (Dell) of Chubbuck, Idaho;  Lorraine Wheatley (Wade) of Downey, Idaho: his brothers, Gerald (Nelda) of Riverton, Utah; Donald (Jean) Hurricane, Utah; Nolan (Jean) South Jordan, Utah, and thirteen grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 12, 2011 at 12:00 noon in the Arimo LDS Stake Chapel.  Friends may visit with the Bellon Family on Sunday evening from 6:00-8:00p.m. in the Horsley's Marsh Valley Funeral Home, 570 N. Meadowview Dr., Arimo, Idaho, and again on Monday morning at the church from 10:30-11:30 a.m prior to the service.  Burial will take place in the Arimo Cemetery with military rites accorded by the Idaho Honor Guard. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.horsleyfuneralhome.com
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the LDS missionary fund.

What a treat it was for me to grow up with Marshall and be so close to the Bellon family. There was always a smile and laugh waiting to happen. Bishop Bellon was such an important part of my life as a youth, and as I began my own family. I have treasured so much of the counsel he shared with me, and I know I am better for it. It has been said that the greatness of a man can best be measured by his willingness to be kind. Bishop/President Bellon was a great man! My thoughts and prayers are with your family.

I want to express the love and admiration the Hart Family had for President Bellon. My Mother Freda just loved him for his kindness and gentleness as her Stake President. He was a friend to all and always had a smile! He will really be missed at the Funeral Home!
