Luanne Elaine Pellnitz Grady

January 4, 1934 -December 28, 2024

Luanne Elaine Grady, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 28, 2024 in Charlotte, North Carolina. Born on January 4, 1934, in Berwick, Pennsylvania, to Edith and Herman Pellnitz. She was the cherished middle child, growing up between her older brother, David, and younger brother, Bruce.

A trailblazer in her own right, Luanne graduated from Drexel University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. She then began a career as a buyer for a department store in New York City. Fate brought her together with her husband of 52 years, Edward Grady, through a blind date that blossomed into a lifetime of love and partnership.

Luanne and Ed raised three children: LeeAnn, Eric, and Lindalee. When LeeAnn was born with Down syndrome, doctors encouraged institutionalization, but Luanne and Ed firmly chose otherwise. They embraced LeeAnn with open arms, ensuring she had access to the same opportunities and love as any other child.

When all 3 kids were in school Luanne returned to work, as a bookkeeper at St. Mary's Episcopal church and later at Lake Mohawk Country Club where she embraced the computer age and digitized the records for the club.

Known for her adventurous spirit, Luanne loved traveling, exploring Europe by crossing the ocean on the Queen Mary and visiting most all the coastal United States. She almost always said yes, when invited to go somewhere. Luanne was as vibrant as she was kind, with a ready smile, an infectious laugh, and a sharp sense of humor.

She was strong, easygoing, slow to anger, unpretentious, and full of love.

Luanne relocated to North Carolina in 2013, after Ed's passing in 2012, to be closer to her daughter Lindalee and her family. There, she forged new friendships while cherishing the bonds she'd maintained throughout her life.

Luanne was an avid football fan, an accomplished bridge player, and a dog lover. Everyone who met her liked her and said how sweet and fun she was.

Luanne is survived by her son Eric Grady and his wife Astrid, along with their children, Kyle and Kirsten; her daughter Lindalee Davis and her husband Ron, along with their daughter, Makayla; and her eldest daughter, LeeAnn Grady.

Luanne will be remembered as a loving mother, devoted wife, proud grandmother, and loyal friend. Her legacy of love, laughter, and courage will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at Tallent Funeral Home, 1937 N. Sharon Amity Road, Charlotte, NC 28205, at 11a.m on March 15, 2024.
