Luciano Guerriero Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 27, 2025.
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Luciano Gueri (Gary) Guerriero on April 20, 2025 after a long, hard-fought and courageous battle with 9/11-related illnesses. He lived his final years with the same strength and grace he showed throughout his life.

In the aftermath of the September 11 attacks, he selflessly volunteered at Ground Zero for eight months, offering his time, energy and heart to his community in one of its darkest hours. His dedication to service left an indelible mark on all who knew him.

Gueri was born on January 2, 1955 in White Plains, NY to Emilio (Milo) and Mary Guerriero (née Chiarella). He was raised in the Silver Lake section of Harrison, NY before attending the University of Rochester and later SUNY Purchase, where he earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts - Acting degree in 1981.

Under his stage name Michael Luciano, he pursued a lifelong passion for the arts as an actor and writer. His career spanned numerous theatrically released films, stage productions and published works. Despite the diversity of his many accomplishments, the stage remained his greatest love and creative sanctuary.

A devoted Yankees fan, he cherished the rhythms of baseball and greatly enjoyed discussing it. He found joy in film, literature and long conversations with family and friends. His warm spirit, sharp intellect and unwavering loyalty made him beloved by all who knew him. His absence leaves a deep void in many hearts.

He is survived by his mother Mary Guerriero; his sisters Laura Gollon (née Guerriero) and her husband Corey, and Maryann Guerriero; his nieces Emily and JoAnne Murray; his nephews Adam Murray and Christopher Gollon; and his longtime love Margaret Doheny. He was predeceased by his father Milo Guerriero; his paternal grandparents Luciano and Giuseppina Guerriero (née Tarone) and his maternal grandparents Tomasso and Antonina Chiarella (née Cortusa).

A memorial service will be held on July 13, 2025 at the SUNY Purchase campus - a place that nurtured his creativity and passion for performance.

In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to organizations supporting civilian 9/11 first responders and their ongoing health care needs.

Godspeed Luce. I remember our time in NYCDOP, particularly working on the Briefing Document. You were a terrific writer and a wonderful wit. Bless you for that.

Luce, I still haven't come to terms with the fact that you're gone, I still keep expecting to get messages from you with words of wisdom for me about acting. We bonded over our love of acting, especially the theatre. Me across the water in Liverpool and you there in New York. You become like another big brother to me, and for that I thank you so much. Over the years I learnt so much from you. You taught me not to just accept things, but question things and people. You were my friend and at times, my teacher. I always hoped to fly over and meet up with you, but sadly your failing health would not allow this. Although we only spoke via Facebook we came to know each other so well. I will miss you forever my other big brother, and I miss you not being there to give me advice.

Rest easy now my friend and I will see you one day on the other side. Then, we can chat away till our hearts content.

I worked with Luc at the Ritz club. He was warm and fun and he was the best part of that job.

Gueri and I, along with our friend Ric, shared a friendship that lasted over 50 years. He was the sweetest, kindest, funniest guy and always intimidated me because he was so brilliant. My deepest condolences to his family. He will always be remembered.

Among the kindest, smartest, and most noble people I knew during my high school years. We hadn't been in touch since then, though it is no surprise that he was at Ground Zero during 9/11 fighting for all of us. He was from Silver Lake, I from downtown. He found joy in football, I in soccer. He was a big tall guy, I smaller and shorter. Such things helped both of us, I think, understand that differences don't make a difference. Your influences on me during our high school years, Gary, seemed subtle then and seem profound now. Much love, Gary, and thank you.

Since 1973 when I met Luciano as a freshman at the University of Rochester, he has been like a brother to me through many shared times , travels and conversations. When we both lived in New York City he was a touchstone. I'll always cherish his presence in my life as a raconteur and caring presence.
