Cecil A. Koonce

Cecil Austin Koonce, age 93, of Greenhill, Ala., died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2009, at ECM Hospital after a brief illness. He was a native of Lauderdale County, Ala. He was retired from Bob Dabney Wholesale Co. He was a member of Greenhill First Baptist Church since July 17, 1953. He was a U.S. veteran, serving in the Air Force during World War II.

He is survived by his wife, Pauline Clemmons Koonce, of Greenhill, Ala.; son, Douglas D. Koonce, of Greenhill, Ala.; daughter, Cecilia F. Hipps, of Greenhill,

Ala.; brother, Earl Koonce, of Florence, Ala.; grandchildren, Anthony Hipps, Sherry Hipps and Cassidy Koonce; great-grandchildren, Austin Hipps and Drew Hipps.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer L. Koonce and Madgie Austin Koonce; brothers, Estes Koonce, Courtland Koonce and Ellis Koonce; sisters, Mattie Lee Reeves and Marie Belew; and grandson, Tyler Koonce.

Visitation will be from noon-2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, 2009, at Greenhill First Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow at the church at 2 p.m. Officiating will be Brother Greg Woodward and Brother Dean Timbes. Burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery, with full military honors.

Pallbearers are Robert Koonce, David Koonce, Ray Wyle, Dale Kennedy, Jimmy Clemmons and Eric Clemmons.
