Lucille Valenzuela CantuCorpus Christi, TXLucille Valenzuela Cantu, 87, passed away peacefully in Austin, Texas with her children at her side on Monday, December 2, 2013. Lucy, as she was affectionately called, was born on July 5, 1926 to Miguel Valenzuela and Catarina Leal Valenzuela in Nixon Texas. She graduated from Corpus Christi High School in 1946 and was a member Hi-Fairnessee Girls Club. She attended Bob Jones University. She was an active member of Kelsey Memorial United Methodist Church. She worked at Memorial Medical Center and retired from the TDC in 1992. She will be remembered for her constant encouragement, her gift of gab, and her eternal smile. She never met a stranger and made friends wherever she went. She loved to travel with her husband and had gone as far as Paris, Israel, and to the Pyramids of Egypt. Her light from Heaven will shine bright forever.She is preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Santiago David Cantu, Sr.; sisters, Mercedes Zamorano, and Lupe Hastings.She is survived by her children, Belinda Vasquez (Mike) of Austin, Texas, S. David Cantu Jr. (Cindy); grandchildren, David Cantu III, Joshua Vasquez, Vincent Vasquez; great-grandchildren, S. David Cantu IV, Josiah Cantu, Fabian Martinez, and Ian Hawk Vasquez; sisters Magdalena Partington, Alice Gutgesell, and Ruth Valenzuela.Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, December 6, 2013 at Seaside Funeral Home Chapel with Prayer Service to be held at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 7, 2013 at Kelsey United Methodist Church with Interment to follow at 2:00 p.m. at Seaside Memorial Park.The Family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Longhorn Village CCRC in Austin, Texas for Lucy's exceptional care and to my sister Belinda for her loving devotion and dedication.
