Lucille "Lucy" Shafer, 91, died January 4 due to natural causes. Lucille was born in West Virginia and raised in Covington, Kentucky. She moved to Virginia and spent 62 years in the same house in Hampton.

She enjoyed volunteering with Sarah Hudgins and the VA Hospital and was a member of Moose International.

She is survived by sons, James and Michael Shafer (Mary); grandchildren, David Shafer (Megan), Jason Shafer, and Evan Shafer; great-grandchildren, Athena and Nikolas Shafer. She is predeceased by husband, Lawrence Shafer; son, Randall Shafer (Darlene); and grandson, Brandon Shafer.

The family will receive friends from noon to 1:00 pm, Monday, January 9, 2017 at the Mausoleum Chapel in Parklawn Memorial Park, with a celebration of Lucille's life to begin at 1:00 pm. Entombment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Sarah Hudgins Foundation.

Friends are encouraged to visit www.parklawn-woodfh.com to share memories and words of condolence with the family.

Arrangements are under the care of Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, 2551 N. Armistead Ave., Hampton, VA 23666.
