Lucy Stone Obituary

Published by The Reidsville Review, Eden Daily News, or Madison Messenger from Dec. 30, 2007 to Jan. 1, 2008.
REIDSVILLE - Lucy Odell Stone, 88, of 286 Wilson Road, went to be with her Lord Friday, Dec. 28, 2007 at Annie Penn Hospital.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Reidsville Christian Church. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
Lucy Stone was born Feb. 12, 1919 in Rockingham County, where she lived her whole life and left a lasting legacy of devotion to family and friends who were blessed for having known her. Married for more than 50 years to Edgar Stone, she mothered three children, tended to the often strenuous duties required when running a productive farm, endured good times and bad but still had compassion in her heart to make sure stray kittens had food to eat. She worked hard but had a sense of adventure and love of life, which prompted her to travel to Europe and Alaska when in her seventies. Upon her return, she greatly entertained her family with stories of her travels. She always made sure those entrusted to her care were provided for and, in her last days, her example was followed as she was surrounded by three generations of family who longed to return the care and were gratified to see her leave this world as peacefully as she had lived in it.
She and her late husband John Edgar Stone owned and operated Stone's Grocery for many years. A member of Reidsville Christian Church, the Christian Women's Fellowship Circle #2 and a long time member of the Fidelis Sunday School Class at her church, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Edgar Stone; her parents, Jesse James and Lula Mae Williams Odell; brother, Roy Odell; two sons-in-law, Adrian Walker and Dickie Ware; and a great-grandchild, Hannah Rose Ware.
Surviving are two daughters, Christine S. Walker of Reidsville and Florence S. Ware of Reidsville; son, John D. Stone and wife Cindi of Reidsville; seven grandchildren, Mark B. Walker and wife Cheryl, Adrianne W. Lane and husband Chris, Christopher B. Walker and wife Shea, Richard B. Ware and wife Dee, Beth W. Burnette and husband Neil, Jennifer S. Longobardi and husband David, Amy S. Moragne and husband Jason; 15 great-grandchildren, Samantha Walker, Karli Walker, Rylee Walker, Devin Lane, Jordan Lane, Kalynn Dillard, Jared Dillard, Alex Burnette, Nicholas Burnette, Lauren Ware, Matthew Ware, Kaylee Longobardi, Collin Heathcock, Justin Moragne and Devon Moragne; sister, Frances O. Alcorn and husband Billy of Eden; three brothers, Ernest Odell of Eden, Joe Odell of Martinsville, Va., and Charles Odell of Forest City; sister-in-law, Laura Odell of Eden; several nieces and nephews; and special niece, Diane Hayden of Ruffin.
The family will see friends from 6 till 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 30 at Citty Funeral Home and at other times will be at the residence, 286 Wilson Road, Reidsville.
Memorials may be made to Reidsville Christian Church, 2020 South Park Dr., Reidsville, NC 27320, or to the charity of the donor's choice.
