Ludwig Burek Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 6, 2022.
"Papa" Ludwig Burek passed away peacefully at Grey Bruce Regional Health Centre on May 30, 2022, after a brief illness. He was in his 92nd year. Born in Lozy, Poland on October 10, 1930, Ludwig and his family were exiled as part of the 2nd World War. They were sent to camps in Siberia, where they struggled to survive. When the war ended, Ludwig's family travelled through Persia, and eventually found refuge in camps on the Eastern coast of Africa. Some of his happiest memories are from spending time in the jungles there. During his teenage years, Ludwig left his family and travelled through Africa, eventually being given permission to travel with a Catholic orphanage group. This group was finally granted a permanent home in Canada with the help of Pope Pius XII. In 1949, Ludwig arrived in Canada at Pier 21 in Halifax, along with his eventual wife, Kazimiera Chendoga. Landing in Montreal for a brief period, the pair eventually settled in Kitchener, Ontario, where they found happiness and began raising their family. Upon retiring, Ludwig and Kazimiera moved to Point Clark for a peaceful life. Eventually, they settled in Kincardine at Trillium Court retirement home. Ludwig/Louis is survived by his wonderful wife of 69 years, Kazimiera/Katherine, his brother, Jan, and his many nieces and nephews in South Africa and Argentina. He is pre-deceased by: his father, Ludwik, mother, Zofia, brother, Wladyslaw/Walter (Altabella), and sisters Helen (Victor) and Sabina (John). Ludwig will be forever cherished by his children: Richard (Lyne), Irene (Dean), Steve (Brenda), and James (Julie). Dziadzio will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren: Jason, Adam, Kevin (Natalie), Craig, Aaron, Nicole, Jackson and Jacob. He will be loved and revered by his great-grandchildren: Emma, Oliver, Bradley, and Ethan. There will be a private ceremony held for his immediate family to honour and celebrate Ludwig's life. The Burek family would like to extend our deepest appreciation to the staff at Trillium Court retirement home in Kincardine, and to the staff at Grey Bruce Regional Health Centre in Owen Sound.
