Luella K. "Lou" DeMarco, age 85, formerly of Sherrodsville, O., (Sunset Valley) died Wednesday morning, March 17, 2010, in the Vitas Innovative Hospice Care facility at Dayton, O., after an extended illness.
She was born June 13, 1924, in Massillon, O., and was the daughter of the late Russell A. and Loretta A. Durant Harsch. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Loretta Jean DeMarco; a son, Dennis DeMarco; and her four sisters, Bernadette "Sis" Harsch, Evelyn Porter, Jean Froelich and Jeanette Dunnie.
Owning a long and varied work history, Lou was employed in the business office of Massillon Steel Casting and had worked in the payroll department of the Enterprise Aluminum Co. before she left to become a registered nurse. She was then employed at the Dayton Veteran's Hospital and Massillon City Hospital. She then enlisted in the Army during the Korean War as a Second Lieutenant where she served in the Army Nurse Corps while stationed in Anchorage, Alaska. After she was discharged from the service, she was employed as a registered nurse at the Carroll Healthcare Center in Carrollton, O. Lou was a 1942 graduate of Massillon Washington High School.
She is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Terry (Denise) Childress of Beaver Creek, O., Mrs. Gary (Debora) Spencer of Hartville, O., Mrs. Byron (Dianna) Fairclough of Carrollton, O., and Mrs. Dana (Lorraine) Yentzer of Tucson, Ariz.; five grandchildren; and a brother, Ralph Harsch of Massillon, O.
A public graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday, March 22, 2010, in the Sherrodsville Memorial Gardens where the combined Carroll County units of the D.A.V., V.F.W., and American Legion will provide military honors, with interment to follow. Calling hours will be held Sunday from 3 until 5 p.m. in the Baxter-Gardner Funeral Home at Sherrodsville where Rev. Gary Spencer will officiate funeral services at the conclusion of the visitation. The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the DeMarco Adolescent Fund, c/o Akron Children's Hospital, One Perkins Square, Akron, O. 44308. Dear Debbie, Diane, Denise and Lorraine, We shiela and me cindi are sorry to hear about your mom. We are just so glad that granma and her got to talk to each other before they both passed. I cant hardly belive that my favorite aunt and my mom had to die so close together. I hardly had time to process one before the other. Our good and loving thoughts go out to you all and if you are ever out this way you kow where the scissors are. love cindi
