Luella Ford-Hewitt Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 11, 2025.
Luella "Lue" Ford-Hewitt, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 98 in Lincoln, CA. Born February 24, 1927, Luella Ellis of Monette, Arkansas was the youngest of seven children to Birdie Mae Petty and William Ellis.

Raised on a cotton farm by her mother after her father's passing in 1930, Lue's early life was marked by resilience and devotion, leaving school at age 12 to care for her ailing mother. In 1936, Lue journeyed west to Marin County, California with her family to find a better life. During WWII, she worked in Oakland's packing plants and later moved to Phoenix for her brother's health. In 1945, she married William "Bill" Ford, beginning a 56-year partnership filled with love and adventure. Together they raised two daughters, Linda and Sharon, and built a life in Novato, CA.

Lue's talents were many - she was a gifted seamstress, event coordinator, and later a travel agent specializing in cruises. She had a gift for cooking and baking-her pies, biscuits, fruitcake and homemade ice cream were legendary among family and friends. She was known for her candor, generosity, and flair for fashion, often seen in sequined dresses and statement jewelry.

A devout Catholic, Lue was active in several parishes and community organizations including the Elks Lodge and Red Hat Society. She loved dancing, camping, cruising, and hosting lively family gatherings. Her homes in Novato, Lake County, and Lincoln were filled with laughter, love, and the warmth of shared memories.

After Bill's passing in 2001, Lue found companionship again with Jack Hewitt, whom she married in 2004. She remained vibrant and social into her late 90s.

Lue is survived by her daughters Linda Ventura (Jim) and Sharon Renzo, four grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and a wide circle of extended family and friends who will remember her strength, spirit, and unwavering love.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Rocklin on Friday, September 26, 2025 at 11:00am.

Lou treated me like her third daughter, always welcoming me into her home with a smile. I loved her gin fizzes she served at Christmas. A fun lady to be with. I admired her fashion style. Rosita and Gordy
