Luighi Flabiano Obituary

Published by Dallas Morning News on Sep. 22, 2013.
Flabiano, Luighi (Tony) Harold Flabiano, Luighi (Tony) Harold, 1-20-35 to 9-17-13. Loved and surrounded by family, Tony passed away peacefully at home. Born in Oklahoma City, OK to Mattia and Opal Flabiano. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson H.S. in 1954, and then joined the rapidly growing family business, American Terrazzo Company, which was founded in 1940 by his father. He continued as an owner, President and General Manager of this four-generation family business until the time of his death. Tony led by example, doing whatever job needed doing. He never sought recognition or honors, but people noticed and appreciated his years of devotion. He had a remarkable strength of character and felt a high sense of responsibility and loyalty to his family, friends, and colleagues. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Carol Ann Day Flabiano, and his children, Thyra Flabiano of Dallas; Lisa Flabiano of Allen, TX; Jason Flabiano of Dallas; Wilton Flabiano and wife Lesley of Murphy, TX; Heather Flabiano and husband Ross Murfin of Dallas; and Jamin Flabiano of Berlin, Germany; five adoring grandchildren, Madelyn, Sydney, Hayden, Wilton (Buzz), and Makenna. He is also survived by his sisters, Antoinette Dowell and Barbara Jo Roberts, sister-in-law Shirley Flabiano, and numerous nieces and nephews. He cherished his time spent at Hilltop Acres in Slaughter, Louisiana and loved his in-laws, Ebba Wilson, Sidney Day, Jr. and wife Bobbie, Estrid Vance and husband Geary, and Helen Day. He is preceded in death by eldest son, Luighi (Tony) Flabiano, Jr.; parents Mattia and Opal Flabiano; and brother, Mattia Flabiano, Jr. Heartfelt thanks to the staff at UT-Southwestern Simmons Cancer Center - University Hospital Medical Oncology Clinic; Mary Crowley Cancer Research Center; Faith Presbyterian Hospice; and his physicians Robert I. Myers and Jonathan Dowell. A private, graveside service will be held at Sparkman-Hillcrest, Dallas, Texas. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions for Luighi Flabiano may be directed to UT-Southwestern Simmons Cancer Center, P.O. Box 910888, Dallas, TX 75391-0888.

It was always such a pleasure seeing Tony when he would come to the office. Always had a smile on his face no matter what. So deeply sorry for your loss.

Tony was a beloved member of the Day family for over 56 years. I loved him as a brother rather than a brother in law. I am so proud and happy he was a part of my life! He was a kind and generous man and I loved him dearly.
