Luigi Funaro Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province from Sep. 12 to Sep. 13, 2009.

FUNARO Luigi Antonio (Tony) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Luigi Antonio (Tony) Funaro on September 9, 2009 at Burnaby General Hospital. Born July 29, 1938 in Grimaldi, (Cosenza) Italy, Tony is survived by his loving family, wife Lilia, sons Lino (Jennifer) and Paolo (Rachelle); his siblings, Irma (Francesco) Cuzzetto, Raffaelle (Anna) Funaro, Joe (Joan) Funaro, Anita (Mario) Occhiuzzi, and Silvana (Pino) Pietramala and his nieces, nephews, family members and many friends. He is predeceased by his parents, Pasqualino and Maria Funaro and his sister, Nilde (Antonio) Maio. He showed tremendous strength, courage, and acceptance in handling his illness, and was an inspiration to us all. His kind soul will be greatly missed and his spirit will live on through all who have been touched by him. `Toto' your sense of humour, zest of life and dedication to your family, friends and community will be missed by all. We wish our time with you could have been so much longer. Prayers will be offered on Tuesday, September 15 at 7:00pm at St. Helen's Catholic Church, 3860 Triumph Street, Burnaby with Mass of Christian Burial being celebrated on Wednesday, September 16 at 10:00am. Entombment to follow at Ocean View Burial Park, South Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, donations in Tony's honour can be made to the BC Cancer Foundation, Colorectal Research Division ( www.bccancerfoundation.com ). Condolences may be offered to the family at www.bellburnaby.com

Toto', dove sarai mai tu a quest'ora?
Dov'e' che vaga la tua vaga ombra
nell'arco del tuo mese sepolcrale?
In quali acque si rispecchia ormai
quel tuo animato e candido sorriso?

Ti cerco e ti ascolto nel lieve ricordo di tempi e luoghi lontani,
quasi infiniti, di una fanciullezza vissuta nel ruvido verdore di campestri stagioni meridionali.

E il tuo sguardo si illumina di celeste. E l'aurora risplende fulgida
nei tuoi occhi stanchi.
E come nell'ultimo nostro abbraccio
scorgo in questi occhi tuoi la tela
di un presepe con sullo sfondo
l'antico convento. Sei sereno, Toto', sei contento.

Dear Lilia:
It's with great sadness that we send our condolences to you, your sons and daughters in law. Tony was a wonderful man who, when he entered, lit a room with his warm smile and wonderful humor. He will be greatly missed by all that were fortunate enough to know him. May you all take comfort in the fact that he is no longer suffering, hard as it is to let go of a loving partner and father. Thinking of you in this time of great sadness
