NELSON Robert L. "Bob" Robert L. Nelson was born June 24, 1922, and died January 15, 2012, at the age of 89. A proud U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, Bob did construction work on St. Charles Hospital and Clay High School before joining the City of Oregon, Maintenance Dept. retiring after 35 years of service. He was a proud member of the Christ Dunberger American Legion Post #537 and V.F.W. Post # 9816 and life long member of the Labor Union #500. Bob played softball, was an avid sports fan and enjoyed working outdoors. He is survived by his daughter, Carol (Ray) Cousino; son, Dennis (Cathy) Nelson; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren, and 12 great- great-grandchildren. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Nelson and Anna Eberhardt; siblings, James, Walter, Ed and Carl; 1st wife, Betty; 2nd wife, Ida "Patsy" Nelson and sons, Louis and Melvin Parker. A memorial gathering will be held on Sunday, January 22, 2012 at Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S. Wynn Rd in Oregon from 1-2 p.m. where a memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of N.W. Ohio or the Christ Dunberger American Legion.www.freckchapel.com

My first year teaching at Clay High School was in 67-68. Dennis was one of my students and I remember meeting and talking with Bob different times in the teacher's cafeteria area. Pleasant fellow and we talked about you, Dennis, and football and everyday events. Our condolences to the Nelson family.
