Lulu Roman Obituary
Lulu Roman, a Country Gospel Music Hall of Fame singer also widely known as a regular on the comedy variety show "Hee Haw," died April 23, 2025, in Bellingham, Washington at the age of 78.
Roman got her start performing a comedy routine as "Lulu Roman, the World's Biggest Go-Go Dancer" in Texas go-go clubs owned by Jack Ruby, who went on to murder John F. Kennedy assassin Lee Harvey Oswald. Country star Buck Owens saw her perform, recommended her for "Hee Haw," and her star was born. Roman proved to be both an adept comedian and a talented singer, becoming a mainstay on the comedy variety show while also developing a career as a gospel singer.
Though arguably best known for her time on screen in "Hee Haw," where she played an array of characters and was often the butt of weight-related jokes, her greater accomplishments may be in music, where she recorded over a dozen albums, sang duets with musical legends, and eventually made her way into the Country Gospel Music Hall of Fame. Roman recorded an album of duets with the likes of Dolly Parton and George Jones, was granted a Dove Award by the Gospel Music Association, performed at President Ronald Reagan's 1980 inauguration, and in 2008 was inducted into the Christian Music Hall of Fame, among other accolades.
"Yes she was TV's 'Hee Haw' legend…but more importantly, my friend," musician Alex Zsolt said on Facebook. "She was a hoot and I was blessed with her friendship! We did many things from 'The Kevin Shorey Show,' charity events, and other interviews and music stuff. I always knew when getting together with Lulu that there would be at least 10 laughs guaranteed. Her faith got her through many hardships in life. No doubt she's singing with the angels this morning and seeing Jesus face to face. See you again one day sweet friend."

My heartfelt condolences are offered to the family, many, many friends, colleagues and devoted fans of Ms. Lulu Roman. Ms. Lulu Roman, a Country Gospel Music Hall of Fame singer also widely known as a regular on the comedy variety show "Hee Haw". She was greatly admired by many fellow artists and all those who knew her. May the love and many, many special memories you shared with your devoted loved ones show how much your life was touched by them. May the God of comfort bless your grieving hearts with strength, loving kindness and peace as the world copes with the loss of Ms. Lulu Roman. We are saddened to learn that Lulu Roman has died and send our heartfelt condolences and sympathy to the family. She will surely be missed by all who loved and cherished her. I grew up watching her on the comedy variety show "Hee Haw". She was funny on the show. Her comedic skills and down-home persona, such as in the skits of The Culhane Family of Kornfield County, added to the purposefully deadpan humor of the show. Putting Lulu Roman, Archie Campbell, Junior Samples, and Grandpa Jones together would be comical. Thank you, Ms. Roman, for sharing with us your acting talents and skills, comedic skills and talents, and musical talents.
Ms. Roman accomplished much in her life, and she overcame many challenges and struggles. This gave her a great opportunity to help others overcome their challenges. Passionately, drawing from her own personal life experiences, she gave of herself and advocated for causes close to her heart, and supported people and organizations with the goal of helping. Thank you, Ms. Lulu Roman. Your music earned you a Grammy nomination, a Dove Award from the Gospel Music Association, and an induction into the Country Gospel Music Hall of Fame, along with numerous other accolades.

Bless you. I met LuLu when I was 12 years old. She performed in my town. Her message touched my heart and I became a born again Christian on that day. I will never forget Lulu. She forever changed my life and gave me a message that I have never forgotten.

I meet LuLu when she entertained at our church on Thanksgiving. I had the honor of being her chauffeur and it was like we were family from then on. I told her that if she was ever in the area, she had a room with her name on it. She stayed with us several times. My husband and I were thrilled when we were invited to her surprise 75th birthday party. It was the last time I saw her. She was as beautiful and kind as always. She was truly a special gift from God, and I am so glad he shared her with me.
I will miss talking with her and going to see her perform. Heaven gained a true angel. Damon and Kim are in my prayers.
