Luther Purifoy Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jan. 19 to Jan. 20, 2010.
Luther Phillip "Phil" Purifoy born October 4, 1926 in Camden, Arkansas went home to be with his Lord on Sunday, January 17, 2010. He was a founding member of Hillside Baptist Church and honorably served in the United States Army during World War II as a military police officer. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He led by example and worked diligently to teach the value of a strong work ethic and strong family values. His joy was in his family, his work, and his vegetable garden. In the summer he could often be found in his garden, working late into the evening to ensure a bountiful harvest he could share with his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Maryann; parents, Luther Purifoy and Zelma Landers; son, Stephen Purifoy; daughter, Gaynelle Alexander; and granddaughter, Leslie Purifoy. He is survived by his daughter, Pam Johnston and husband, Dean of Camden; son, Bart Purifoy and wife, Kathy of Chidester; grandsons, Luke Purifoy of Chidester, Stephen Purifoy and wife, Summer of Chidester, Justin Clark of Hot Springs, and Stephen Alexander II and wife, Leah of Shreveport; granddaughters, April Purifoy of Fairfield Bay, Jennifer Riley and husband, Marcus of Stephens, Stephanie Gibson and husband, Blake of Baton Rouge; great-grandchildren, Brynlee, Judson, Johnathan, Gabrielle, Kevin, Emily and Conner. A memorial service will be held Wednesday January 20, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Hillside Baptist Church in Camden with Bro. Larry Owen officiating.

I want to thank everyone for the thoughts and prayers during daddy's illness and now.
I want to especially thank Thomas, as he was such a comfort after daddy's death. Thanks so much, you were certainly very helpful. Proctor's is very blessed to have you on their staff.
I love you, daddy, and you KNOW how very much I appreciate everything that you did for us. You were a very hard working man, and always made sure we had the things that we needed, and you always managed to save up to have some kind of 'family vacation' every year. We all still miss your garden.
God bless you, daddy.
Love,
Pam'o

Bart,I'm sorry to hear about your dad. I still remember the time him and Steve came to the Methodist church cause he thought you where in trouble. I know he went through some hard times in the war and in life, but I could see that he really cared about his family

Bart,

I have fond memories of your dad! He worked with my dad at Moseley Candy Company and he was always so kind and sweet to me when I went to the warehouse with him. They all had a good time working and fishing with each other. May the love of our Heavenly Father comfort your hearts in the days to come.
