Lydia Ciccarello Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 14, 2024.

We regretfully announce the passing of Lydia (Petrella) Ciccarello, 88, who passed away at her home on Wednesday, January 10th, 2024. Born on October 13, 1935, in Hartford, CT. She was the beloved daughter of the late John and Donata (Fratarolli) Petrella, and widow of Angelo "Chick" Ciccarello, Jr.

Lydia's life was a collection of chapters that told a story of kindness, beauty and strength. She had infectious energy, and unwavering loyalty to her family and friends. She shared a passion for gardening with her father, John and spent countless hours creating magnificent flower beds of color and charm with a particular fondness for roses and tulips.

Lydia had a natural entrepreneurial spirit, a self-motivated attitude and drive to try new things. Over the years she started several small businesses, but she was best known as "Lyd" at Manpower of Downtown Hartford where she worked as an Account Manager and Recruiter. She was so proud of the young professionals she placed in jobs that turned into wonderful careers. Lydia just had a knack for making you believe you could do anything, to shoot for the stars, and never ever give up, and if you needed a little support along the way, she'd be right there to help you cross the finish line.

When Lydia wasn't caregiving or hosting fabulous holiday gatherings you could find her at art class. Painting was her passion. A gifted watercolorist, Lydia created over 200 hundred original pieces of art, each one uniquely special. All who loved her will never forget her generosity, tenacity, wit and charm.

Lydia leaves behind many loved ones: her daughters; Cindy Ciccarello of West Hartford, CT; Charisse Canterino of Warwick, NY; son Steven Ciccarello (Tara) of Hebron; Five grandchildren: Michael Canterino; Thomas Canterino; Jessica Beaulieu; Nicolette Ciccarello; Stevie Ciccarello and great-grandson: Cameron Hamilton. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her only sister Josephine and brother-in-law Frank Cianci, nephew Brian Cianci as well as many cherished family members and friends.

A Memorial Service will take place Saturday, March 2nd from 11 a.m. to noon at South Church, 277 Main Street, Hartford, CT 06106. Lydia will be laid to rest in Cedar Hill Cemetery 453 Fairfield Ave, Hartford, CT.

Lydia and my mother met each other when she and my mom were in the hospital 65 years ago, thats when cindy and I were born, they became friends and my parents and I used to visit them in east hartford frequently over the years. She always would make me laugh no matter how bad a mood I was in. There were so many good times I can't list them all. I loved her and chic. I was very fortunate to have known both of them. I hope shes making my parents laugh where ever they may be. I'll miss her dearly.

Lydia, I am so sorry to hear that you left us. I cherish our friendship that started over 46 years ago. I remember you getting me a job at Aetna, through Manpower, after highschool. Or all the times at your old house. You were always such a kind and loving person. I will truly miss you. And I will also miss dropping by to see you or coming over to have dinner with you, Cindy, and my Mom. We always had such a great time. You were such an incredible artist. I cheerish the lighthouse painting you had given me some 13 years ago. It still hangs in my living room to this day. Just a beautiful piece of art. Thank you for everything but mostly thanks for being a great friend. I will truly miss you. Rest in peace Lydia. I will see you again when my day comes.
