Lydia Daniels, known to her family and many of her friends as Libby, passed away on June 9, 2012 at the age of 90.

Lydia was born January 15, 1922 in Dillon, South Carolina to James Oliver Huggins and Sarah Ruth (Newberry) Huggins. Lydia grew up on a farm just outside of Rockingham, North Carolina. She graduated from Hoffman High School, Richmond County, NC in 1940. She went on to earn an Associate degree from Florence Business College, Florence, SC in 1942.

From 1942 to 1947 she was employed as secretary to the Chief Engineer of the Charleston Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Co. in Charleston, SC. In 1947 she moved to Washington, DC to serve as secretary to the Director of Civilian Personnel at U.S. Coast Guard Headquarters.

It was while in Washington in 1950 that Lydia met Raymond D. Daniels. The couple fell in love and were married in Arlington, VA in September 1952. Lydia and Ray moved to Cleveland, OH where Ray was enrolled in graduate school. She transferred her employment to the U.S. Coast Guard, Great Lakes District Headquarters, in Cleveland.

In January 1958 the couple and their one-year old daughter, Pamela, moved to Norman, OK where Ray had accepted a faculty position at the University of Oklahoma. Lydia and Ray resided in Norman for more than 40 years. In 1998, upon Ray's retirement, they moved to Reno, NV to establish their retirement home and be nearer their daughter now living in northern California.

Lydia and Ray traveled extensively over the years. In 1968-69 the family resided for 15 months in Switzerland where Ray served as an NSF Science Faculty Fellow at the University of Neuchatel.

Lydia is survived by her husband Dr. Raymond D. Daniels, daughter Pamela Joan Daniels (husband Andrew L. Binstock) of San Carlos, CA, sister Hazel M. Haigler of Asheboro, NC, and a number of nieces and nephews.

There are no plans for a memorial service in Reno.

"70 years is our life span ---80 years with special mightiness." (Psalms 90:10). Lydia had 90 years of special mightiness. May your hearts be filled with wonderful memories of the times you spent together as you celebrate a life well lived.
