Lydia Knoepfel Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province on Dec. 10, 2012.
Lydia Knoepfel (nee Poehlke) Sept. 4, 1925 - Dec. 5, 2012 Mom passed away peacefully and quietly in the early morning of Dec 5. This day would have been her 64th wedding anniversary and we know she and Dad are together again in heaven. She is predeceased by her husband Willi, daughter Heidi, brothers Herman, Robert, & Herbert, and sister Olga. Survived by daughter Brigitte; sons Peter (Anne), and Tom (Teresa); grandchildren Kyle, Jennifer, Tyler, Mitchell, Madeline; brothers Leo, Reinhold, Bill, Fred; and sister Bertha. Mom was born in the Ukraine on September 4, 1925, moved to Germany in 1935, to Vancouver in 1954, to Richmond in 1960 where she lived until the move to Evergreen in 2007. Mom's strengths were her steadfast and unwavering faith, hard work, hospitality, and love for her family. Our thanks to the staff at Evergreen Care Home for their loving care and attention, making Mom's stay a happy one. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gideons or the Alzheimer Society. A memorial service celebrating Lydia's life will be held at Vancouver's Ebenezer Baptist Church (Fraser & 54th) on Thursday, December 13 at 2:00pm.
