Lyle Murl Williamson

Lyle M. Williamson, 89, of Filer, passed away January 28, 2014 at home with family at his side after a courageous battle with cancer.
Lyle was born September 10, 1924 in Pocatello, ID. He was raised in California and graduated from Bell High School before enlisting in the Army during World War 2. He fought across Europe in the 3rd Army and was honorably discharged in 1946. In 1947 Lyle became an officer on the Los Angeles Police Department where he served 27 years before retiring as a homicide detective.
He then started a short second career in welding, where he was well known for welding tanks and planes full of gasoline.
In 1977, Lyle and his wife Elizabeth (Beth) moved to Filer and built their dream home. When Beth became ill, he provided loving care for her until her death in 2011.
Lyle was a long time member of the Masonic Lodge in Twin Falls and a member of El Korah Shriners. He also served as Filer Highway Commissioner for 31 years and also served on the Fair Board.
In his leisure time, he was an avid blackjack and poker player, frequenting Cactus Pete's. At age 89, he won the last poker tournament he played in.
Lyle is preceded in death by his wife, Beth and son, Dennis Lyle Williamson. He is survived by daughters Lyla (John) Painter and Paula Reay, sons James Scott Williamson III and Rob Williamson, and by children Ray (Mickie) Dion, Russell (Michelle) Dion, Debbie Dion and Charles Dion. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held Friday, January 31 at 2 p.m. at White Mortuary "Chapel by the Park".
