FAIRHAVEN — Ronald J. Sylvia, 53, of Fairhaven died August 26, 2007 at home after a long courageous battle with lung cancer. He was the husband of Darlene (Medeiros) Sylvia.

Born in Acushnet, the son of Arthur and Shirley (Falconer) Sylvia of Fairhaven, he was raised in New Bedford and lived in Fairhaven most of his life.

Mr. Sylvia was formerly employed as a painter and recording secretary for the Painters Union local #195.

He enjoyed fishing and camping. Mr. Sylvia was a grateful member of Alcoholics Anonymous for 17 years.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Derek Sylvia, and his fiancée Bethany Rogers, of Dartmouth; 3 brothers, Michael Sylvia of Fairhaven, Warren Sylvia of New Bedford and Gary Sylvia, and his wife Roberta, of Rochester; a sister, Pamela Tripp, and her husband Joseph, of Fairhaven; his father-in-law, Thomas Medeiros of Fall River; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was the father of the late Airia Sylvia, step-father of the late Crystal Medeiros and son-in-law of the late Katherine (Marley) Medeiros.

His Funeral Service will be held on Thursday at 10 AM in the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home For Funerals, 50 County Rd. (Rt. 6) Mattapoisett. Visiting hours Wednesday 5-8 PM. For directions and guestbook, please visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
