Lynne Hunt Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 14, 2022.
Lynne Hunt, aged 69, passed away on December 14, 2022. She is survived by her daughters Nicole Hunt and Kelly Hunt Parker (Seth), her step-son Robert Hunt (Stephanie), her sister, Cindy King, and her brother, Michael Jeffries. She is also survived by multiple nephews and grandchildren who affectionately called her "Nana." After graduating from the University of San Diego with her law degree and passing the Bar exam, Lynne's love of Nancy Drew novels led her to apply to be a Special Agent in the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Like Nancy Drew, Lynne had a fierce determination to put maximum effort in whatever she put her mind to and in 1978 she successfully joined the FBI as the 91st female Special Agent. Her determination, strong work ethic, no-nonsense attitude, and calm demeanor helped her navigate many difficult situations in her career whether she had to accomplish a two-person arrest of multiple individuals in the south-side of Chicago as a new agent or lead the FBI's Baltimore Field Office through the events of 9/11 as the Special Agent in Charge. Lynne retired from the FBI in 2005 and then went on to have a second career at DuPont managing the company's internal investigations. In 2012, Lynne retired from DuPont and channeled her fierce determination into mastering her favorite sports: golf, tennis, swimming, and bike riding. While her athletic prowess ensured people noticed her, her loyalty and kindness to others guaranteed she made life-long friends. She always had a moment and kind word for everyone around her, and loved being stopped on her daily walks for people to admire her dogs or to say "hello." Lynne had the sort of animal magnetism that ensured not only her own dogs were obsessed with her, but everyone else's dogs were too. It was often a sore spot with members of her family, who would quickly realize that when Lynne came to visit, their dogs only wanted to be around her. The only thing that matched Lynne's love of dogs was her love of family, especially her children. For her family, she was endlessly generous, thoughtful, and dependable. She was the person her family would turn to when they needed advice, a problem solved, or simply for someone to listen to them. While Lynne will be remembered for many things, above all, she will be remembered for her excellence as a mother, sister, and friend. In lieu of flowers, Lynne's family kindly ask that you donate to the Palm Springs Animal Shelter to help support the fuzzy butts that were not lucky enough to be one of Lynne's dogs. Lynne's Family. Today we will toast and celebrate Lynne's amazing life-one cut far too short. She was a beautiful person inside and out. A true gem of a friend to me and many. Kind, intelligent, fun and funny. We all loved being with Lynne at Ironwood. I admired her strength and determination and also her no nonsense attitude about life. May this Gem, Lynne RIP and May we always remember the light she brought to all of us. ❤ Mia Montpas

I knew Lynn from our time together with Ironwood Bike Club. We often rode together and enjoyed conversations both serious and just good laughs. She was smart, humble, and simply just a wonderful person. She will be sinccerely missed.

Not a day goes by that she is not in my memories. Whether it's at the gym, playing golf or walking the dogs. She was a breath of fresh air and a wonderful person. I will truly miss her.

Lynne we will miss your smile, your laugh and your love for life. When we were outside exercising we would often see Lynne with her loving dogs and stop to talk to Lynne. Lynne loved the challenge of any outdoor sport and played them all very well. Hup and I miss our Friday nights after tennis and joining us for margaritas and how we all talked about solving the worldly problems. Lynne was a strong woman and spoke freely about her thoughts, and loved and respected when we did as well. Lynne was a friend to many of us and we truly miss our Dear Friend.

Lynne was one of the original members of the IW Cycle club. She was responsible for pushing for the IW jersey. She was always concerned about saftey and would remind the group to be safe and communicate. She was my friiend, and I will miss her. May she rest in peace.

I knew Lynne from riding with her in the Ironwood Bike Club. She was one of my favorite fellow-riders and learning of her accident and passing was truly devastating news. I spoke with her the day before on the golf course; I spoke with her the morning of her last ride, as she was out walking her dog. It's hard to believe and very sad to think that I won't see her again. She was a special person and will really be missed by everyone who knew her.

Lynne was the reason I was able to become and serve as a true special agent in the FBI. Our times together on the cold streets of Chicago taught me how to interact and initiate a conversation with anyone who opened the "door to our knock.". Her warmth and joy of living was infectious. How she will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have been her friend.

Lynne was someone special and I will miss her. She and I played tennis together and would also compare our orthopedic surgeries! I often ran into her walking the dogs. I was looking forward to knowing her better but her life was cut too short. May Lynne rest in peace.

Lynne was an amazing person who had a remarkable life. I will miss her smile, kindness and patience with me on the golf course. She had Style and we always joked about how easy she made it look. I will miss you my friend!

Worked under her leadership both in the FBI and at DuPont. Always admired her effectiveness, equanimity and treatment of others. She was self-confident without having an out-sized ego. Always approachable and respectful of others, she was a truly unique individual.

I met Lynn in 2018/2019 when she joined the Palm Desert Tennis Club. I was Captain of the 3.5 tennis team that played in the Desert Tennis League and Lynn was recruited to be on our team. In 2019 my husband and I joined Ironwood as golfing members and I ran into Lynn. We played tennis together in 2021 at Ironwood. Lynn was a strong woman, a strong game player and never gave up when it came to tennis or golf. She will be missed by many for a long time to come. Saying farewell to a friend is hard to do.

Dear Nicki & Kelly,

I am heartbroken to learn of Lynne's passing. When she lived in VA I would oftentimes join your mother and Jennifer for outdoor activities (i.e., running), as well as social events with the Esposito's and the Hunts. I have such fond memories of Lynne who was always a kind, warm and thoughtful friend.

My funniest memory of Lynne was when we were both out on an FBI inspection in LA and we had to drive to conduct an offsite interview. Lynne drove during an era without Google Maps. Needless to say, we arrived late due to Lynne's admission that she had no sense of direction.

I always admired Lynne's willingness to mentor other female agents. There were many times she provided me with of helpful advice and solutions to a problem. She was one of three executives I asked to review my ASAC KSAs. She provided meaningful suggestions that I incorporated into my ASAC application and to this day I believe in the end helped me in a ranking in the top 5 out of 60.

I will always cherish those fond memories of a highly accomplished and wonderful friend.

With caring and warm thoughts,
Rosanne Russo

I was so sad to hear of Lynne's passing. Having worked as a colleague with her for several years, I know the world has lost a talented, dedicated, compassionate person. She excelled at everything she chose or was called to do. My deepest sympathy goes out her family and her many close friends.

Lynne was always cheerful and engaging, and every conversation I had with her was memorable. Her keen intelligence and fascinating experiences led to interesting incites on Comey and our complicated political climate. Not long ago I stopped by to see her and had yet another wonderful discussion. I brought her a framed picture of a Jack Russell Terrier. I will always remember her walking the course on those times when we played golf together. She will be missed in our community by all who were fortunate enough to know her.

I am so sorry for your loss.

Lynne has been one of my dearest friends for almost 40 years. Our families have traveled and spent holidays together, shared our good times and our sad times. She was the easiest person to be a friend with - no drama, always giving 110%, a true class act. It was an honor to be her friend and I will always both miss her and value the memories I have. RIP Lynne.
