Lynne Ternent Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 1, 2025.
To know Lynne Ternent was to see Jesus on this earth (or to come as close as one could). Her example led many people to Christ, and her friendship and discipleship helped many of them remain tethered to Christ. Lynne's extreme love for PEOPLE knew no race, no religion, no gender, no age, no political affiliation, no limit whatsoever. She was truly a Christ Ambassador in every sense of the meaning, and she loved with no limits, with no bounds, with no exceptions. Though she will be sorely missed and her loved ones will grieve her absence here on this earth, they are joyous that her pain in this life is over, and that Jesus has accepted her into His loving arms. There is no doubt that on March 1st, 2025, she heard the words: "Well done, good and faithful servant" (Matt. 25:23). After her battle with this final, cruel cancer, Lynne now has rest.

She found such joy in her family, first and foremost, but also in so many friends from the churches she was an integral part of: Evangel Temple (Akron), Cuyahoga Falls Assembly of God, and New Life (New Hope) Church in Stow. She served as secretary at Evangel and New Life. In the professional world, she also left her mark, especially when she won the title "International Secretary of the Year" in 1987, which took her to a competition in Los Angeles, California, and to various speaking engagements in the United States. She was the executive secretary at Emerge Ministries, and later the executive secretary at Empire Wholesale Lumber before her retirement in 2012. Whether in her professional or personal life, Lynne's friends knew her as a consummate encourager who always gave of her time and loved so selflessly. Of course, she also found joy in the simple things: a cold slice of watermelon (with salt, of course); the beach, especially the sound of the waves; and a good, solid, daily nap, when she could manage it.

Lynne is survived by her faithful, loving husband Hugh, to whom she was married for 58 years; her son, David (Kelli) Ternent; her daughter, Cathy (Greg) Dyer; her son, Trent (Richele)Thompson; her grandchildren - Caleb (Courtney) and Cameron (Juilia) Ternent, Meghan and Mea Dyer, and Dominick and Delaney Thompson. In addition, she is also survived by her brother, John Shaver; her niece, Melody Lovelace; and her nephew, Joey Shaver. Hugh and Lynne's "big hearts" also included friends who were grafted into the family tree: Joe and Michele Tilstra and their children, Kyle, Connor, and Caden, along with many others. She leaves behind a rich legacy that will never decay, for it was forged in heavenly strands woven together in a cord of love that will be cherished forever.

Lynne's Celebration of Life service will be on Tuesday, March 4th, at 4:00 p.m. at New Life Church in Stow. (The calling hours are at 3:00 p.m.)

I´ve had the honor of knowing Lynne Ternent, or as I´ve always called her, Aunt Lynne, for 48 years-my entire life. Over all these years, I´ve been blessed with so many memories of growing up with the Ternents, and Aunt Lynne has always been a shining presence in them.

I´ll never forget the family Christmas get-togethers at Aunt Moe´s house, the unforgettable beach vacations, and the adventures on the houseboat. One of the most cherished memories was when Aunt Lynne took me on my very first visit to Disney World. That trip was something magical, and it´s a memory I´ve carried with me throughout my life. Now, as a parent, I´ve had the joy of taking my own children to Disney, and sharing the same memories that Aunt Lynne and I created together. It´s one of those moments in life that comes full circle.

And, of course, I´ll always remember the Friday nights spent at Aunt Lynne´s house, eating Guessippi´s Pizza and watching The Dukes of Hazzard. It was a time that felt so simple and yet so special. Aunt Lynne´s smile and laughter were always at the center of it all, and I´ll never forget how her joy was infectious. No matter when I saw her, she had a warm smile on her face, and I could always count on a big hug and the sweet question, "How´s Scotty doing?"

As I got older, I loved stopping by my mom´s beauty shop, knowing Aunt Lynne might be there. Those moments were a bit of sunshine in my day. She was always so supportive, from offering to help with my resume when I was starting out in my career to just being a steady presence in my life. I could always count on seeing her car in the driveway, and it would instantly make me smile, knowing I´d be greeted by her warm hug and that familiar, loving smile.

One thing that stands out to me more and more as I reflect on Aunt Lynne´s life is her unwavering friendship with my mom. As I´ve grown older, I´ve come to realize just how rare and valuable that kind of deep, lasting bond is. The years of laughter, support, and shared experiences between them were something really special. I know my mom valued Aunt Lynne´s friendship more than words can express, and I feel incredibly lucky to have witnessed that bond.

Aunt Lynne, thank you for everything you´ve been to me and to our family. I´ll miss you more than words can say, but I find comfort in knowing that this isn´t the end. As the Bible says, "absence from the body is presence with the Lord," and I know I´ll see you again. Until that day comes, your smile, your kindness, and your love will stay with me forever.

I grew up at Evangel Temple and knew Lynne. She was a hard worker, she had a beautiful smile, and she loved her Savior. She shared her testimony with many people and she lived a life of showing God's love to everyone. She will be truly missed. Prayers to her husband Hugh, their children, grandchildren, and other family members. May peace and comfort fill you in the days ahead. Sue Berger Slusser & Alan Slusser

Lynn was the best neighbor we could ever ask for. She always complimented our garden and was never without a smile for our 2 young children and ourselves. She will be dearly missed and our heartfelt sympathies go out to her family and friends.

Lynne was a gift on assignment from heaven. Her infectious spirit was catching and made all of us better having been in her presence. She was always a welcomed voice and gracious spirit in all of my contacts with her professionally and personally. Heaven will only reveal the dynamic impact she made while serving at Emerge Ministries. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Hugh, Kathy, David and their family.

I am Grateful,

Dr. Mark and Janna Ford.
