Mabel Johnson Obituary

AUBURN-Mabel L. (Henry) Johnson, 74, of 32 Richard St., died Sunday, September 28 in the Life Care Center of Auburn.

Her husband, Rev. William C. Johnson died in 1972.

She leaves her two sons, Richard K. Johnson of Grafton, WI and Charles Johnson with whom she lived and two grandsons, Michael T. and Richard H. Johnson. She was predeceased by her son, Michael H. Johnson in 1970.

She was born in Little Rock, Ark., the daughter of the late Lyde A. and Myra I. (Collins) Henry and in the Worcester area for many years.

Mrs., Johnson worked as an administrative assistant for the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester for many years before retiring.

She was an active member of St. Matthew’s Episcopal Parish in Worcester, where she had been a member of the altar guild and worked for a time as the parish secretary. She was a longtime member of the church choir and had served as representative for the Worcester County Ecumenical Council. She was also a member of the Auburn Swingers.

A memorial service celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, October 4th At 10 AM in St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, 695 Southbridge Street, Worcester. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Stained Glass Window Fund, c/o St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, 695 Southbridge Street, Worcester, MA 01610.

The Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central Street, Auburn is assisting with the arrangements.
