MACK E. GAINES, 51 LOVING HUSBAND, FATHER AND GRANDFATHER ROCKFORD - Mack E. Gaines, 51, of Rockford de-parted this earthly life Friday, Sept. 14, 2007, in his residence. Born April 29, 1956, in Wynne, Ark., the son of Oscar and Sallie (Nettles) Gaines Sr. Graduated from Wynne (Ark.) High School. Married Quanda Johnson. After moving to Rockford, he attended Sun Prairie Truck Driving School and received his CDL license. As an avid bass guitar player, he won many awards. He played bass guitar for St. Luke Miracle Temple Church of God in Christ for many years. Mack served as a deacon at West Side Church of God in Christ. Formerly employed by OSF Medical Center for 12 years. Employed by Rockford School District for 10 years. Survivors include his loving wife of 31 years, Quanda; son, Chey Gaines of Rockford; daughters, Keisha Gaines and Tocky Kirby, both of Rockford and Tonya (Stacey) Mitchell of Waldorf, Md.; grandchildren, Gregory Fort Jr. and Cheyniah Gaines, both of Rockford, and Ahlan and Tariq Mitchell, both of Waldorf; mother, Sallie Gaines of St. Louis; sisters, Lula M. Phillips of Memphis, Tenn., Daisy Gaines and Jessie (JT) Pettway, both of Chicago, and Sallie Johnson of St. Louis; brothers, Oscar (Josephine) Gaines Jr. of Rockford and Charles Gaines of Chicago; special friend, Jerry Bolden. Predeceased by father, Oscar; brother, Richard Gaines; and sister, Dorothy Gaines. Service at noon Saturday, Sept. 22, in West Side Church of God in Christ, 228 S. Hinkley Ave., Rockford, with visitation from 10 a.m. until time of service. Pastor Maurice West will officiate. Burial in Willwood Burial Park.
