MADELEINE EDISON Obituary

Madeleine (Maddie) Edison died peacefully on Saturday evening, September 17, 2016 attended by members of her loving family. Madeleine was born on August 14, 1922 in Baghdad, Iraq, to her parents Abdul Raheem Alaka and Regina Tessey. She is an Alumna from the America University of Beirut, Lebanon, who later came to the University of Redlands to gain her advanced degree in English Literature. At the U of R she met William (Bill) Edison whom she married on July 20, 1952. They settled in Redlands in 1953 and she began her teaching career. Upon her retirement in 1988, she taught in the "English as a Second Language" program where she continued to be a patient, loving. and supportive person who inspired creativity, dedication, and inspiration to others. Madeleine is survived by her husband Bill, and sons Thomas (Peggy), Mark (Donna), David (Michele), grandchildren Elisabeth, Bryce, Devyn, Drake, Sean, Megan, Alicia, Latoya, Andre, and a sister, Yvette Alaka. A memorial service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church, 419 Fourth St. Redlands, CA on Saturday, October 8th at 1 pm. The family suggests that, in lieu of flowers, you may donate by phone or on-line to the Redlands Family Service Agency or to the San Bernardino City Mission Ministries.
