Madeline M. Picard Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 18, 2024.
Madeline Mary (Mazzerle) Picard, 93, died peacefully at her home surrounded by family on August 30, 2024. She is predeceased by her parents and her grandson, Carmen Picard.

Born on May 31, 1931, to the late Louis Mazzerle and Anna (Sambrick) Mazzerle in Upper Merion Township, Madeline is survived by her husband, daughters, 9 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 5 sisters and one brother.

Madeline married Carmen M. Picard on September 13, 1952. They have 3 daughters, Barbara Palmer, Donna Picard wife of Robert Picard, and Maryanne Picard. She lovingly cared for her husband and family. She was a proud mother and grandmother. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren remember well the activities she planned and enjoyed with them.

Known as Maddie to everyone, she had a sense of wonder about the world around her. Though her formal education was shortened, she read everything from cookbooks to nature books to reference books. She was always curious to learn and improve and discover something that challenged her thoughts. She was creative and self-taught in many areas. She sketched, painted, sewed, crafted elaborate stuffed toys, quilted, crocheted, refinished furniture, raised flowers, and grew and preserved vegetables and fruits. Her energy was unlimited, and she did it all with a sense of humor and to share with others. Maddie also enjoyed watching Phillies games, playing cards and occasional visits to a casino.

Madeline lived a life of humility, integrity, and kindness. She passed these qualities to those with whom she shared life and love. To honor the legacy of our wife and mother, we would ask you to reach out to others in warmth, love and caring. She made the world a better place and would want us to do the same. We miss you dearly!

Grandmom was magic. She was kind to all she met and taught us to always be curious about the world around us. She could get kids to do anything, even when no one else could! She was an example of love and kindness and humility and will be greatly missed.

As a child, my family frequently visited Maddie and Carmen, and Maddie was always very warm, kind and welcoming. I remember the beautiful farmhouse that she filled with antiques. I still have several beautiful doilies that she crocheted. Maddie was a wonderful person and I will miss her dearly. My condolences to Carmen, Barbara, Donna and Marianne on losing such a special wife and mother

Aunt Maddie and Uncle Carmen had a great farm house out in the country and I remember picnics and BBQ with them and all my Picard and O'Donnell cousins. She was always so kind to us as kids. Rest in Peace
